it's so outdated. are they looking for guns? that's not the most efficient means for protecting 60k people if so. if it's actually about protecting people they'd actually do a real frisk or look at what's in coolers, and that's rare in my experience

Yeah.

I'm sure people bring illegal alcohol, weed, weapons of various kinds, what else? But without a scanner like airport and real checking contents -- is outside food allowed? I've brought my own snacks.

And we only had to give Marlon Byrd 2.

But I guess Cruz is a steroid user. Wait..

i wouldn't trade a good draft pick for an additional 0.5 win.

You guys are still overly attached to WAR, and I fear most people don't understand it or its limitations. Byrd's WAR as a CF in 2011 vis a vis Cruz's WAR in RF in 2013 means nothing. They're both RF now. The bar, offensively, is significantly higher. Byrd's WAR in 2011, had he been a RF then, would have cratered.

do you really feel replacing byrd with cruz moves the needle far enough away from the low 70s win total you projected to make it worthwhile? i'd be much more pissed giving up a draft pick to sign cruz for one season in which the team likely won't compete than i was when they signed byrd.

No, I don't. I don't even want Cruz. But, does signing Byrd move any needles? We spent $16M on a 35-year-old OF for a team that is going nowhere.

as opposed to giving up a pick and at least the same money to a 33 yo tubby OF on a team going nowhere.

We need to be moving needles now? Why would we want to do that? Need to win ball games is what we need to do. Either that or tank for a better draft pick.

Cruz is not really all that good. Can't play the outfield very well. Can't run. Low OBP. Hits the ball real far though. RBI man. You need those. Has a career 1.018 OPS in the post season.

Byrd didn't cost a pick and chances are he'll be better than Cruz for the next two years.

And I don't care about WAR.

I care about production.

Meh, just punt all the seasons until we have three or four early to late-20s stud hitters, and a young stud ace

(But the last time we were in that situation the general tone here was that the franchise was being destroyed)

The years 2007 through 2012 were pure dumb luck. Nothing else. Just luck.

We got Dugan and JP Crawford and Franco and even Roman Quinn so we're almost set. All of our pitching prospects are either hurt or have the whooping cough. So we might have to look for another young pitcher who broke his arm in a bar fight before we can compete. But there is probably one out there right now so I'm optimistic.

Or maybe I'll go find Phillippe Aumont and break his arm.

Anything for the home team.
