Passan says Boras turned down a 7/$140M offer from the Yankees to Choo a few weeks ago because they wanted what Ellsbury got, so NY moved on and signed Beltran instead

Tanaka not being posted is good for the Phils.

My fantasy was Rube was leaving money in the payroll for him.

Snag in Orioles deal with Balfour. Physical showed shoulder issues. Papelbon anyone?

Dodgers close to signing Chris Perez. How many relief pitchers do they need?

Think it would've been better next offseason after they had the chance to move some money.

If Tanaka is viewed as a legit ace then the Phillies should at least post the 20 million and go from there

I thought they had 20-30 million in cap space this year-maybe this is why he's kept the money available. Tanaka would fit perfectly into Halladay's spot.

Ya, really. How the heck are they up against their self-imposed limit, with Doc's money off the books?
(Brandy) only hinted at Halladay's personal issues during her Hall of Fame speech last July, when she said, "Roy would want everyone to know that people are not perfect. We're all imperfect and flawed in one way or another. We all struggle."

They won't get tanaka nor likely will be serious players for him. But maybe there's a ripple effect to the point that a Jimenez or Santana falls into their range. I doubt it, but maybe.

Been a long time since I spent time talking to local Reading sports fans, but the story about the team being ginned up to flip at a high ROI seems gospel in Berks. Smart money move (I.e. those greedy SOBs-um, what, um) , but what is the basis? Kind of dismissed that around here...

I know, take it to the WEEU thread.

I don't see Tanaka ending up anywhere but the Yankees. If there is a ripple effect for the Phillies I hope it's one that doesn't cost us our 2nd round pick. Honestly, I'm clueless what the plan is, if there is one. I'd rather sign the Cuban CF I think. I'd be ok with Garza.

People think the Phillies are going to sell the Reading franchise?

sounds like slavery TBQH. I don't know anti-trust courts don't go after this setup since the organizations involved in the deal are not franchises of the same conglomerate.
