BA did an article handicapping the Top 10 teams most likely to land Tanaka and handicapping their chances. Phillies didn't make the Top 10.

Yankees only had to pay him $2.4 million for this year so that trade was only mostly bad.

11.5 million last year, right? Plus we don't know what Kramer Sneed will turn into, although I suppose we can make some good guesses.

Drove in more runs than anyone on the Phillies except Brown and Utley last year.

Cloyd will wear 65 (last worn by CLIFF LEE in 2003), Outman will wear 88, and Zagurski will wear 58 for the 'Jins.

-- The Yankees, Dodgers, Cubs, White Sox and DBacks are the five teams that submitted offers to Tanaka. A deal would likely be in the 6/$120M range

-- RealKen says the Nats are interested in Balfour and may trade Storen to make room

-- RealKen also says the Reds may be close to signing Grady Sizemore

-- Cafardo says an AL executive told him that teams are scared from signing Garza due to physical concerns

We didn't even make an offer? What's the point of having a lot of money and threshold room if you're not even in the game for a guy like Tanaka?

Listen, if we throw $20M at Tanaka, where do we find the $8M for Marlon Byrd, or the almost $8M for Kendrick, or the over $8M for Chooch?

I've been to some sports stadiums within the past 6 months that don't have metal detectors, no wands, you don't have to empty your pockets. Mind boggling.
