I think Rube and Ken have a good relationship.

i love lee. one of the most fun phillies to watch in my life. but we need to get better. he is the only one that can help us do that. id imagine it sucks getting traded constantly and twice by the same team. but it has to happen if we can get a good package with an elite prospect.

thats pretty much where i am at right now.

I'd be okay with Bogaerts and three B-level prospects for Cliff.

They could also then turn and trade Jimmy, either before the deadline or during the offseason. Maybe to the Sawx also?

If we get Bogarts from the Red Sox, I doubt we get much more. Maybe one other guy and we have to send Young too. They have some really nice pitching prospects in De La Rosa, Workman, Owens, Ranaudo, Barnes. And I'm not convinced we get Bogarts. I have to admit I'm a little intrigued by Middlebrooks given last years ML success.

Real Ken compares this to the Beckett deal with the Marlins in 05. Bogaerts being the Hanley in the deal & MY being Lowell.

Amaro has all the leverage here. The Phils can simply keep Lee for next year or try to trade him during the winter. If Boston is worried enough about its rotation and doesn't want to give up their prospects, that's Cherington's call.

All this said, if Amaro decides to pass on Bogaerts/Bradley just so Boston eats Lee's salary, I will be so fucking sick of it I might drive to CBP myself and take a shit.

The only money I would give Boston would be the option year buyout, about 12 million. So, that gives them Lee for this season plus two. They can sit on it if they want more.

The Phils should absolutely eat this year's salary, since the payroll will come in much lower than it could have. I wouldn't go too far beyond that. Maybe $10M total, and only for a clearly upgraded package

In my opinion, the players are so much more important than the money that I don't give a shit if they eat the whole thing.

Sox beat writer CAFARDO says all indications are that Amaro is insisting on Bogaerts

That Amaro/his bosses could kill this over money going back is stomach-turning. As Shore has said, the deep pockets represent our last competitive advantage. And that won't last unless they add talent and start winning again.

I really hope this is true. No reason to think that Lee won't be a premium player for the Phils next year too.
