I realize he makes $25m a year and he's Ryan Howard and what not, but have we not reached the point where we should be looking for someone else to play 1B against LHP? He's beyond worthless against them. It's a pretty disastrous hole in this lineup and it's not that hard to find someone who could mash LHP and play 1B. And no I don't give a shit about Ryan Howard's feelings and how will it affect him.
Honestly, let's revisit it in June. If his numbers are still that bad, we're looking at a year's worth of sample size, and that's when you bring Ruf up and give him his first baseman's mitt back.
Well, May maybe. Hopefully it won't be an issue by then, but maybe Ruf will be tearing it up and you can cast it as an issue of giving him an opportunity rather than sitting Howard. Plus maybe Delmon Young will have been hit by a truck and you can give Ruf time in the field, provided he picks it up a little better in the minors. I can't root against D. Young's performance as a fan but I do really despise him and hope something occurs so that I don't have to root for him.
