The Michael Young Effect

On the broadcast last night, Murphy mentioned that a bunch of guys were doing extra hitting. He mentioned Rollins, Howard, Mayberry and I think Revere. I'm not positive he said Revere, too, but I remember thinking to myself that maybe none of the white guys were doing any extra hitting.

Tbf, 5 of the 8 usual starters are black and Chase can do whatever he wants then you have the catcher and Young. I wouldn't read race as a factor in it.

Well with the division wrapped up already, I think we have a good shot at the wild card, we are only 2 games out and the nats are leading there but we still have 19 games left head to head, I think we can catch them.

Because of Buck's hot streak I was wondering about guys who generally suck at baseball yet perform exceedingly well against the Phillies. There were obviously some sample size issues so after filtering out guys who had only seen a handful of plate appearances against the Phils, there were a lot of pitchers left over. I ended up setting the minimum at 50 PA. By tOPS+ vs. the Phillies, which makes a player's career OPS a benchmark for their relative OPS+ in games versus the Phils, the best active scrubs against the Phils are:

Miguel Olivo, 151 PA
OPS vs. Phillies: .952
tOPS+ vs. Phillies: 172

Olivo's most similar batter on baseball-reference is Rod Barajas. But against the Phillies, he's basically Mike Piazza.

Miguel Tejada, 138 PA
OPS vs. Phillies: 1.062
tOPS+ vs. Phillies: 166

What's up with Miguels? Tejada has the highest batting average vs. the Phils of any active player at .408.

Scott Hairston, 135 PA
OPS vs. Phillies: 1.025
tOPS+ vs. Phillies: 166

This fucking guy.

Hunter Pence, 114 PA
OPS vs. Phillies: 1.075
tOPS+ vs. Phillies: 159

Nate Schierholtz, 62 PA
OPS vs. Phillies: .949
tOPS+ vs. Phillies: 158

If you can't beat 'em, join 'em? Pence has the fourth-highest OPS vs. the Phillies of any active player and the second-highest slugging percentage behind Ryan Braun.
no offense but you are everything that's wrong with America

Is anyone cautiously optimistic that Kendrick can replicate the second half of last year for an entire season? I thought he pitched fairly well last night considering the weather/game interruption.

Meanwhile the Phillies continue to court the underage-drinking demographic that gave them a three-plus-year sellout streak.

Yea I'm going to need a source on this.

I think that's pretty unfair. they card me regularly. and dollar dog nights have their downsides but I'd guess big families probably love them, too

and saying group discounts courts underage kids is just dumb

In my two years of ushering, the worst crowds we had were for Mets games, college night, and dollar dog night. I believe there was one perfect storm night, and it drove me over the edge.
