Really? I don't see any reason why he wouldn't be gone after this year if they actually have a losing season.

I did include an "if." It's more likely than not they won't play .250 ball all season.

fringe average was talking about which pitchers you'd most like to watch. the one dude said hamels and then something like "then you could watch him in a bar fight after the game." seems a little crazy to bring that up even in a joking fashion.

What does it mean that so many of you are already in full panic mode and I am totally serene about this? The bullpen after Bastardo is atrocious (again), but that can be fixed in season. Everything else seems fine.

Found this article from 2010 that epitomizes the Phils' draft failures over the last several years pretty well.

http://mainlinemedianews.com/articles/2 ... 721153.txt

When the Phils were about to make their first-round pick in the 1995 MLB draft, they had two names atop their draft board: Roy Halladay and Reggie Taylor.

The Phils passed on Halladay, a Denver-area high school right-hander, in favor of Taylor, a multi-tooled outfielder. Halladay was the 17th player selected in the 1995 MLB draft, by the Toronto Blue Jays; the Phils drafted Taylor three picks earlier, with the 14th overall selection.

“I remember it very clearly,” said Marti Wolever, the Phillies longtime scouting director who was in the draft room when the team deliberated between Halladay and Taylor. “It was a split camp in our room. There were half that liked Roy Halladay and would take him there with that pick, and half that didn’t like his arm action and didn’t want to take him at that point. That’s where we were.”
...
“Reggie Taylor, probably in all my 18 years (involved in the draft), had as many tools as anyone we’ve taken in the first round. We all like Reggie’s tools and there was concern about arm action on Roy.”

This is fine, so long as the guys who preferred Taylor were skinned alive and fed to the cigar guy's dogs, or at least fired and, I dunno, branded with HLHIII on their foreheads.
