Really. We'd be 4-3 if our 29-year-old ace pitched half decently.

And as bad as Howard looks, let's reserve judgment. Even last year on one leg, his numbers project out (over 152 games, which is how many he played in 2011) to 31 HR and 124 RBI. Only two players had more RBI. I know that's not the be all and end all, or worth $25M, but it's pretty helpful

He probably was thinking that this is going to be the start of a transitional period and didn't want to commit to any long term contracts that would get in the way of the changes that are coming over the next two seasons. New manager and coaching staff; new left side of the IF, new RF; new arms in the rotation and BP. Two years from now, the makeover will make most of this team unrecognizable.

Do we have one player in his prime that you guys look at and go, "Wow, can't wait to watch him for the next 5-10 years"

Some of you might say Dom Brown, but really what's his absolute ceiling? .800 OPS?
you sure do seem to have a lot of time on your hands to be on this forum? Do you have a job? Are you a shut-in?

Fuck young players. You know who was literally never young? SCOTT EYRE and he and Shooter Beck used to huff keyboard cleaner all night with sluts at the local community college and still come out of the pen with nuclear slid pieces. Bunch of SABRpedos over here

I'm hoping for the best because I love this team and I still love alot of the players on this team.

At the same time, I'm pretty confident that this isn't a very good team, despite the the $180m payroll. It's been debated on this board a billion times this offseason, so I'm not going to rehash it or argue about it. I'm just going to take a gallows humor type approach to things and make funnies. At least things that I think are funny. It's tears of a clown though bro. I'm crying on the inside.

I like what I've seen from Revere so far, and Galvis will probably take over for Jimmy or Chase at some point. Aumont could be one of those guys if he gets his shit together. The rest are wearing pigs and ostriches on their unis

I like Revere, but he should be batting 8th, especially when Chooch comes back.

You really think so? I think that kills a lot of his value. You don't want him stealing and getting thrown out with the pitcher up. He is still young and I actually think he has had pretty good ABs so far.

Well you wouldn't want him getting thrown out with anyone up. But in a vacuum a CS at the top of the lineup seems more damaging because it takes away an RBI opportunity from the middle of the order hitters (vs. the pitcher)

I like him hitting 8th because I think 1) his walk rate would be maximized there, meaning his OBP would also be maximized (more OBP also gives him more opportunities to exploit his baserunning value) and 2) if you have him attempt to steal every time before the pitcher bunts him over, you can bootstrap some runs if the pitcher can bunt him over. From what I've seen he fast enough to steal early in the count even when they suspect it's coming.

But you probably wouldn't send him with two outs and risk the pitcher leading the next inning off.

And with 0 or 1 out, having him steal on the first pitch and then having the pitcher advance him with a good bunt (down 0-1 in the count most times) is asking a lot.

In lieu of a clearly better option, I like him leadoff

I like Ben but I'm not completely sold on him as a top of the order option either. i do acknowledge he's had decent AB's mostly and would like to see him in the 1 hole a bit more. To me,though, there is not a ton of offensive upside. I said it before, but he reminds me of Jason Tyner though I think he will be a better player (out on that limb).
