I like him hitting 8th because I think 1) his walk rate would be maximized there, meaning his OBP would also be maximized (more OBP also gives him more opportunities to exploit his baserunning value) and 2) if you have him attempt to steal every time before the pitcher bunts him over, you can bootstrap some runs if the pitcher can bunt him over. From what I've seen he fast enough to steal early in the count even when they suspect it's coming.
Agreed. He's not any better than a .340 OBP guy and he might not get more than 20 extra base hits if you give him 600 PA (he hasn't hit a fly ball yet this year). We should be minimizing his ABs because he just isn't a productive hitter.
I like him, but 120 fewer PA distributed to other members of the lineup (mostly Rollins and Utley) far outweighs the difference in SB between batting 1st and 8th
