Interesting. Glad to see Zeke has a decent walk rate in the minors, for a variety of reasons.

This guy is a little bit like Inciarate in that he has a lot of tools but not the power one. A speedy, defense first outfielder who has played some in the big leagues. Another slap hitter.

He's 26 so look for a career year from him.

Played mainly CF last year for Cleveland's AAA team. If he can make a good impression, Mayberry may be in trouble when Young returns

i believe it's the first time he's batted leadoff on opening day since 2004. lofton, maybe?

(I assume you meant to type "the first time he hasn't batted leadoff".)

But it's the first time he hasn't batted leadoff on opening day since last year. He actually hasn't been leadoff on opening day since 2010. He has been the replacement Utley 3 hole hitter in early April for the past two years and only went back to leadoff in late April/early May.

oh man. wow. yeah. i believe the point about him not batting leadoff on opening day for the first time since 2004 was even mentioned on both the pregame show and during the game. that's a bad one.

Speaking of steals, Ezequiel Carrera has 11 spring stolen bases. Exactly who is Ezequiel Carrera, you ask? He’s a young outfielder for the Cleveland Indians who will not make the team and who realistically has the ceiling of a fourth outfielder. But he clearly has speed, so scratch his name down for future reference. If an opportunity arrises due to injury or he simply gets a September call, you have a candidate for cheap late-season steals.

He actually looks like a decent player. Could help post-2013, especially if they put a full-timer in LF or RF to go with Revere and Brown.

I read on twitter that Dbacks want him back if a team doesn't honor the Rule V status.

Indians manager Terry Francona said during Spring Training they knew they would lose Carrerra, who can play all three outfield positions, if they placed him on waivers.

"His speed impacts the game," Francona said last month. "He's got the ability to hit the ball out of the ballpark occasionally. He can be an interesting part of the bench, when he can change a game with his speed. He's a good little player."

Now THERE's a guy with a great walk rate. Little people are available. Why can't we target some? Like that Game of Thrones guy.

Thanks Amaro.

If another team claims him, they have to keep him on their 25 man. Supposedly, AZ didn't want to lose Inciarte in the first place (he was one of their high prospects, MLB ceiling) so they'll reclaim him if no one else picks him up.

You're thinking of Blanton diving to the plate.

Did MattS or anyone ever write an article about how Howard is more valuable because of his RISP 'clutchness' (thanks to the shift) or am I imagining things? In a dumb argument about how it is more valuable to hit a single when runners are in scoring position than when the bases are empty. Because fucking duh.

The question is repeatability, i.e. that players who have great RISP numbers one year generally fade back because it not a skill. It's not that RISP numbers are irrelevant because production with RISP is equivalent to production with the bases empty; they're irrelevant because they're usually small sample size flukes.

Or am I in the wrong?

IIRC, generally that is the case, but doesn't hold true for Popo. True Clutch!

I could be making this up, but I think he did. I believe part of the explanation was the difference in the defensive shift with RISP as opposed to no men on base.
