you did see my "meaningless spring stats" line, right? that was supposed to be a hint that the lineup was a joke.
fransden near the top of the order was the part that entertained me the most while writing the list.
young may not be on the bench, but the dl is a distinct possibility. in that case some combo of asche/fransden/galvis could actually be an improvement over what i was expecting from 3b this year. fransden's numbers in the minors up through age 25 look pretty darn good.
i see him ranked in the top 5 or 6 in the giants organization around that time. reports of overthetop baseball iq. struggled in his 1st big league experience, then ruptured an achillies and lost a ton of time. worked his way back then got a ped suspension, perhaps related to drugs he used while rehabbing. got to spend last summer with sandberg, who thought highly of him. so is at least plausible that he isn´t a total fluke. 2b is his natural position, so he may get enough time giving utley rest that he impresses again. defense at 3b may well suck, but not likely to be worse than young, so if the bat keeps looking good and young goes down, they could well start him instead of galvis at 3rd, with the latter serving as late inning defensive caddy.

The Yankees, who were nearly two years on average older than the Phillies last year, were not mentioned.
