I want to part of Young. He stinks at playing baseball and he's an asshole, don't want him on the big club, don't want him on a minor league deal. We should just sign Manny and wait his 100 game suspension out then hope he can help us down the strech if we want to sign a dick who probably can't play baseball (but maybe can).

I was thinking about 2008. That team, at times, had:

Clay Condrey (can't believe he had an impact)
Chad Durbin (most effective boring guy you saw come into a game)
Adam Eaton (pissed me off so much, then caused great joy when he was dumped, then pissed me off again that he got a ring)
Scott Eyre (did so much better then I expected)
Tom Gordon (holding on just enough)
J. A. Happ (not a factor)
Jamie Moyer (best record as a starter)
Brett Myers (attitude problem leading to his departure)
Rudy Seánez (bleh)
Eric Bruntlett (fun to make fun of - thanks for the triple play general)
Greg Dobbs (really?!? Had a magic bat from the bench)
Pedro Feliz (great glove, but made you insane)
Tadahito Iguchi (were you ever so happy to have Iguchi on the roster?)
So Taguchi (stopped by to pick up another ring - but not much else)
Softball Star Matt Stairs
& a pretty worn out Pat Burrell.

Looking at those roster slots it is hard to believe that today we fans don't feel pretty lucky in the recruiting department and pretty unlucky in the on field department. That roster was full of concerns, reclamation projects, bad attitudes and a few guys at the end of their run. Part of the magic was the doing it with mirrors aspect that happened, some of the dumb luck (Blanton HR, Myers doing it with the bat, Stairs golfing that blast, etc.) and a lot of it just a magic season. The talent on the roster today is amazing and should dominate, especially comparing to the 08 roster.

How could you forget Geoff Jenkins?

And

Tadahito Iguchi (were you ever so happy to have Iguchi on the roster?)
So Taguchi (stopped by to pick up another ring - but not much else)

Talent does not always equate to performance. I believe the word potential was created for just such a scenario.

I wasnt being sarcastic, I actually like this. I'd rather have a team of crazies.

The vague chance Brian McCann will get super kicked in the head will keep my eyes glued to the Braves series.

delmon young sucks, both as a player and a human being. the fact that hes being considered is a blunder. signing him would be a travesty.

there are 191 guys in MLB history with at least 3000 career PA and at least 100 career games at DH. here are the bottom 10, with career rWAR

Jose Guillen 3.4
Jonny Gomes 2.3
Mickey Hatcher 1.6
Pat Tabler 1.3
David Dellucci 1.0
Delmon Young 0.6
Lee Stevens 0.5
Jim Spencer 0.1
Randy Bush 0.1
Steve Balboni -0.5

all those other careers (except Jonny Gomes, who is entering his age 32 season) are over, so those number include their decline phases. Delmon Young is entering his prime.

also what's most alarming is that most guys who DH heavily do so after their defensive skills have deteriorated. Young was a full-time DH when he was 26 because he's a god-awful outfielder. the idea of him playing for a National League team is offensive.

Gillick was terrible. Maybe as bad as Amaro. Maybe worse.

Rudy Seánez was fucking great :results: wise, 6.2/5.2 K/BB per 9 split aside. 124 ERA+ over 43.1 IP.
