After thinking about it, I wouldn't sign anyone for more than two years this offseason. I would sign Victorino for two and Youk for one if I could but would do two if needed. I would then trade for Soriano. This lets you to kinda "go for it" without completely fucking yourself it in the future.

Which is not to say I don't like it. Total agree that short-term deals are the way to go, and I think it's more likely than not that Vic > Pagan over their deals.

I like your thinking except do me a favor and rightfully put Victorino in the #7 slot. Put a high OBP guy like Chooch or Youk in the 2-hole (or Utley for that matter).

That's a reasonable plan but overly cautious, imo. We should plan on being good for the next several years with Hamels, Lee, Halladay (or a new acquisition of similar caliber), and Papelbon and sign or trade for the best mix of position players possible

Worst case, the team slips and you sell pieces off for prospects

i've been wondering what the leash for trading for prospects would be in 2013. the previous few years (2011 aside obviously) have seen the Phillies take an incredible leap to win the division, generally after the deadline. even last year saw the same pattern. i wonder if the same thing happens again will Ruben be forced to trade or wait it out knowing the talent on this team should even out in the wins section late in the summer.
