That list is ridiculous. Groin, rib, wrist, shoulder, elbow... the guy is a walking WebMD

And he had a .694 OPS in 2011. Do not want

If Giants are offering the same deal, I don't see why he would sign with Phils.

Good thing Phillies have an unlimited pot of money because Amaro is a fucking moron.
I know what you're asking yourself and the answer is yes. I have a nick name for my penis. Its called the Octagon, but I also nick named my testes - my left one is James Westfall and my right one is Doctor Kenneth Noisewater.

they have to sign somebody for the OF and anyone who was realistic knew they weren't in on hamilton. at least by signing pagan they don't lose a pick?

if the phillies are that intent on obtaining a CF then trade for Bourjos and then sign Swisher and Youk. But to keep going down the list of CFs and throwing money at them seems dumb.

There's no way Victorino gets more than a 3-year deal, maybe less. If they sign Pagan for 4 years, it defies all logic.

for the record, a 5-4-3 weighed average of pagan´s fwar over the past three seasons is 3.65. if you take that as an estimate of his current level, then subtract 0.5 war per year for aging he´ll average 2.4 war/year over the next 4 years. through in an approximate fa market value of $5 million per war and the ¨right¨ contract offer would be $12 million/yr. he would be underpaid in 2013 and overpaid in 2016. [All of the preceding is based loosely on tangotiger´s system]

pagan had an oblique injury in 2011, so he might actually be a bit better than the above estimate.
even with that injury, he has been a total of only about a half a win less valuable as upton over the last 3 years. basically, figuring out which of the two is better for the phillies comes down to balancing upton´s advantages in youth, upside, and power versus pagan´s in price (hopefully), attitude (supposedly), and obp (at least in 2012). and pagan

pagan in cf, youkilis at 3b, uehara in the pen, and going with platoons in the outfield corners, and hope that our prospects continue to develop so that they and the money saved not signing upton or hamilton can bring a major midseason upgrade... i guess i could deal with that.

.621 ops.
yeah, pagan is going to be older when signing a similar contract, which is something to worry about. then again, rowand was not nearly as good age 28 or 30 as pagan (bwar-wise). at age 29 pagan was hurt and rowand had a fluke babip. it could be argued that pagan is about 2 wins/year better than rowand at the same age, probably thanks to not running into walls as hard.

Wouldn't it just mean teams like Pagan better?

We're gonna give someone the dreaded "extra year." At least with Pagan you keep the pick and the AAV won't break the bank on the back end. I'd have to know the rest of the plan to form a strong opinion.
