not that I'm banging the drum for Bourn or anything, but what free agents are you guys trying to sign for less than market value?

I'm OK with signing Bourn but I'd like to stay below $12M/yr on any FAs just in case the Phils' draft pick falls out of the top 10. (They're at #7 right now)

I'm just saying I don't think that is Bourn's market value, but we'll see in a few months.

Actually 13M might be about right for AAV ( double his current salary), but I really don't see 5 years for a CF who's value stems from his defense and baserunning.

Damn I keep forgetting about that rule too. Yeah, I definitely wouldn't offer him more than $12M if it costs a draft pick.

He isn't very good.

My main concern is 3 of the top 4 OF FA's are basically average, value-wise and the 4th is a head case.

Run the price up on Bourn and sign VICC

Just trade everything for Carlos Gonzalez. Brown, Biddle, May, etc

I mentioned in another thread Chris Young from AZ. Seems to fallen out of favor but has good power and good plate discipline (if not being the greatest average hitter). He's owed $8 mil in 2013 and has an option for 2011. Been injured a good part of this year but may be a good buy low candidate.

Granted, I haven't been following/checking Bourn since the Phils dealt him, but I didn't think he strikes out as much as he does (20%).

He's walking less than Pence and stealing bases worse than Juan Pierre. If he's not hitting .290 or so his value plummets as he has no power and his OBP is mostly BA driven.

How long til the Phillies take Podsednik back? I mean he's better than Martinez out there.

Yeah. Victorino's better than Bourn and considerably better than the Upton of the BJ variety. And a bucket of shiny new nickles might be enough to get him back. Throw in a brand new tiny little hat for his Chompasaurus and he'll arrive before the plane lands.

I think Bourn's better than Victorino, and given their ages, he's a much stronger bet to be the more productive player in 2013-14. The question is whether the gap is worth the additional $$/years he will get.

Well you have to sign somebody on the market. Inevitably the deal will stink by the last year. If it's not Bourn, then who?
