I think they want Charlie to stay, but Chuck knows 2013 is it. The contract is done after then. The question is... does Sandberg get an interview elsewhere this off-season, and if so, does he accept a job no matter what? I think the Phillies have been protecting him for years and they will match/make him manager if any team tries to get in there. If it means firing Manuel, I think they would do it. That could get really dicey. I think the optimal plan was Chuck goes through 2013 and Sandberg takes over in 2014, but after this season I would totally understand a change, and I would be ready for it. I would like to see a lot of guys stay though, that's the thing. Dubee seems to do a good job. Billmeyer seems to do a good job. Mackanin seems to be good at being laid back and hipsterish. I think all of those guys fit in with Sandberg. Except Greg Gross, whom I would be itching to replace in a second.
He's been in the organization for 2 seasons (1 off season).
Charlie's not going anywhere. If Ryne gets an offer, he's gone. No big deal.
It's somewhat surprising he didn't get an offer from the Cubs last off-season, or the Cardinals. I just don't think the Phillies want him to go anywhere (again).
