He's a 0.4 WAR player this year, 70 OPS+, 95 TB and 17 BB all year and his fielding at 3B is the worst of his career. Sure, let's give him $5.5MM and start him at third next year.

The problem is there are worse 2013 fa options at 3b

I've got that too. It hurts like heck sometimes.

I must have the confidence and I must be worthy of the great Ruiz who does all things perfectly even with the pain of the plantar fasciitis in his heel.

Eskin or not, I was just thinking earlier today that taking responsibility when things go wrong is not one of Charlie's strengths.

What are the legit chances Sandberg is opening say skipper 2013?

After this season, I would say about 75%. Before the season began I would have said about 10%. That's gonna turn into a gigantic story. I think they want Charlie to stay, but Chuck knows 2013 is it. The contract is done after then. The question is... does Sandberg get an interview elsewhere this off-season, and if so, does he accept a job no matter what? I think the Phillies have been protecting him for years and they will match/make him manager if any team tries to get in there. If it means firing Manuel, I think they would do it. That could get really dicey. I think the optimal plan was Chuck goes through 2013 and Sandberg takes over in 2014, but after this season I would totally understand a change, and I would be ready for it. I would like to see a lot of guys stay though, that's the thing. Dubee seems to do a good job. Billmeyer seems to do a good job. Mackanin seems to be good at being laid back and hipsterish. I think all of those guys fit in with Sandberg. Except Greg Gross, whom I would be itching to replace in a second.

I always figured Manuel would finish in 2013 and then move upstairs, ideally with Sandberg as hitting coach or bench coach next year and then sliding into the managerial job for 2014. But Chuck doesn't do losing well--he basically got himself fired from the Tribe in 2002, and it seems like this awfulness is really getting to him.

I'm pretty sure if Sandberg were to go elsewhere before he became MLB manager here that the front office wouldn't lose sleep over it. It's not like losing him as a player.

He's been in the organization for 2 seasons (1 off season).

Charlie's not going anywhere. If Ryne gets an offer, he's gone. No big deal.

so Dom is at .286/.335/.437 in 206 ABs with 7%bb/19% k rates for the season with a nice reverse split going (.327 vs. LH; .273 vs. RH). i'm really excited to see what he can do with the big club for the rest of the season
