I think they want Charlie to stay, but Chuck knows 2013 is it. The contract is done after then. The question is... does Sandberg get an interview elsewhere this off-season, and if so, does he accept a job no matter what? I think the Phillies have been protecting him for years and they will match/make him manager if any team tries to get in there. If it means firing Manuel, I think they would do it. That could get really dicey. I think the optimal plan was Chuck goes through 2013 and Sandberg takes over in 2014, but after this season I would totally understand a change, and I would be ready for it. I would like to see a lot of guys stay though, that's the thing. Dubee seems to do a good job. Billmeyer seems to do a good job. Mackanin seems to be good at being laid back and hipsterish. I think all of those guys fit in with Sandberg. Except Greg Gross, whom I would be itching to replace in a second.
