Speaking of Polanco, he just went in for an MRI

Man that was funny

Now trade/cut/release him, like we did 7 years ago. But don't get Urbina back. I assume that would be a bad move.

I'd be delighted to get Urbina back if anyone will take Polanco and the rest of his contract.

Am I the only one who has a hunch that Lee trade is coming now?

If they could somehow get Olt and Martin from the Rangers I'd do it and even throw in $5MM/year towards Lee's salary. Doing so would get them a CF and 3B for next year AND get the payroll down to ~$150MM (even with Pence), leaving Rube plenty of room to get another SP and address other needs, e.g., the bullpen, LF and the bench. And, of course, getting a couple of good, young, inexpensive and controllable position players would be great for the future.

Of course, getting Olt and Martin wouldn't be easy but, in addition to the cash, I'd consider sweetening the pot with players (Brown? A minor league pitcher?).

I do have the harsh memory of signing Halladay only to deal Lee. So, yeah, I've been thinking the same thing.

I really think they're gonna go into 2013 expecting to pay the tax. If the year goes well, it's great PR. If not, you can unload a contract or two in July and avoid it anyway.

No way they subtract from the team coming off a down year.

But would it be subtracting if they ended up with Olt plus Martin and then signed a FA SP for 2013 (e.g., Marcum?).

I also feel as though the success of the big club hinges on either Domonic Brown or an unknown minor league position player (Ruf?) contributing mightily in the next couple of seasons at league minimum #'s. That's a scary but I think realistic feeling.

I don't see why it's unrealistic to expect Dom to hit at the big league level next year. Even if he's an adventure, if he gives you league average offense for 500K, that's fine with me. And I think he obviously has offensive upside above that

For 2013, I think it probably would be, even though I personally wouldn't mind it. But it would definitely look like a subtraction to the masses.

I think it's entirely realistic. The question is whether you want to rely on the chance that he'll both hit AND stay healthy.

Not sure I agree. Even the unwashed masses, smelling of mustard and beer, can see the potential gaping holes at 3B and CF and the love affair with Cliff Lee has cooled some IMO.

You might be right. I heard a poll this morning on WIP that had 40% OK with dealing Victorino and something like 30% being OK with dealing Lee, which surprised me.

I'd focus on possible Vic/Pence deals, personally, but we'll see...

he's giving up a few more HRs than usual, but it's been unlucky for Lee this year

still, if he wasnt such an asshat everything would be mush rosier

Just to be clear, I wouldn't trade Lee because of lack of faith in him. He's having a tough year, that's all, and I'm sure he'll be CLIFF LEE in the long run. I would do it simply as a matter of resource reallocation and retooling to try to get the right mix and balance on the team as a whole.

Watching this Phillies clubhouse, which had a trivia question about the Phillies all-time hit leaders. If Rollins continues his current pace and remains with the Phillies, he should become the Phillies all-time hit leader in 2014 (he'll pass the three current leaders in quick succession: Delahanty 2,214, Ashburn 2,217, and Schmidt 2,234). Rollins currently has 1,965 hits, and should hit 2,000 for his career before the end of August.

I really hope he stays here forever. Rollins should be a lifer.
