They shouldn't trade Victorino unless they get something of quality in return.
Worst case, he walks after the season if you offer arbitration, you get a supplemental pick, or he accepts arbitration, and you have your CF for 2013 on a one year deal at around $12MM, you wouldn't have to sign a free agent or trade for someone of any quality who's likely to cost you either prospects or a multiyear deal around that AAV.
And trading Victorino now is the definition of "selling low."

Considering that that draft pick will be somewhere in the 30s to low 40s, the question is whether you imagine anyone else giving up a prospect of similar quality for two months of a struggling and probably injured Victorino when they can't offer him arbitration and recover a draft pick for him.
None of the internal options are going to be ready for 2013, although they MIGHT be by 2014 (even that's looking rough at this point).

If they re-sign Hamels they'll be lucky to have $12MM left to spend. Can't see them risking it all on Vic. Also Rube's got to get under the threshold this year. Of course, if Hamels is traded everything changes.

I could see the Phils come back next year with a healthy Rollins, Chase and Ryan, and get pretty good production out of all 3, even with them solidly in their 30's. Won't be the MVP-ish guys they used to be but solid. With a few days off to keep fresh. Chooch for one more year after his career year. That's 4 position players if Utley can play the field.
Start there and the 3 Aces, and that's your nucleus.
Next year we can do without anyone else on the current roster depending on a lot of factors.

Are we really going to improve over Jimmy Rollins for what we'd have to spend and who was available if we could move him? If we could ever get a high OBP lead-off guy with good base-running skills, take a walk, bunt, knock a few doubles... then Rollins could move down to the 6 or 7 slot.

The Phillies are indicating to other teams that they’re eager to move Hunter Pence. The right fielder will remain under team control through 2013, when he’s expected to obtain a raise and earn $13-14MM.
Do you think April is too early for a Roger Dorn night?

Anyway, I support this. Dream scenario, parlay him into Headley. Try to re-sign Vic on the cheap and put Brown back in RF. Worst case you go into next year with Nix/Mayberry in LF but that's the easiest position to fortify.
