Is there a Random Baseball Thoughts Thread?

I never thought much of Valentine as a manager. His Texas teams were run very poorly. Throwing to the wrong base every single game. Poor baserunning and defense. Not getting much from the talent on hand. All that kinda stuff.
Teams lie, sometimes for good reasons, sometimes for bad. They do it to get an advantage while they look at the trade market or just because they can

i wasn't much of an every day baseball fan during his mets days, so i've pretty much gone on what mlb on xm has told me coupled with that incident with the sunglasses and mustache. but this was downright moronic. it'd be one thing if it was a player with perceived bad character, like manny or alex rios, etc. but what's he got against freaking kevin youkilis?

apparently he apologized this morning before the game. what's funny is the soundbite i heard of BV addressing the reporters had the tone of "these things happen" and somehow he had no control over what happened. whatta jackass. he's also got a scheduled weekly gig on an NY radio show.

Phillies daily trivia calendar continuing its reign of awfulness. Today's:

Who is the only Phillies player to serve as designated hitter in a regular season Phillies game at Citizens Bank Park?

Yes, I was at the first one. Their answer was "Ryan Howard, June 25 2010" and that's it

No idea what he's doing with Youkilis. I mean, I HATE Youkilis, but ffs that was unnecessary.

“Maybe that works in Japan,” Pedroia said.

Awesome.

I loved that. Bobby has always seemed like a scumbag to me. I hate the BoSox as much as the next guy, but I hope these guys run him out of town.

Somehow, we have more runs than the Reds. That doesn't make any sense.

RHP Bartolo Colon threw 38 consecutive strikes from the second pitch of the fifth inning to the seventh pitch of the eighth inning on Wednesday, the longest string of strikes in at least 24 years, which is as far back as the data available Wednesday night went. Colon worked eight scoreless innings at Angel Stadium to improve to 3-1; he allowed four hits and he struck out five.

I saw on BBTF that that's the greatest number of consecutive strikes going back to at least 1988, the first year for which STATS has data, by eight.

Tim Wakefield of all people previously had the record, from 1998.
