He played LF because the Pads still had Kouzmanoff to play 3B. Not because of defensive problems.

i'm all in on headley. i'd most certainly trade brown for him. and it might not take much more, because the padres are kind of broke/don't want to run a big payroll. they agreed on $3.475M for 2012.

Brown for Headley is a no-brainer, and I'm a lot higher on Brown than most people around here seem to be these days. Headley's just OK on defense but he can hit and he's entering his prime seasons now.

Just feel like we already have a decent 3B under contract and that Brown has a non-zero chance at superstardom, at a position of need for us. Would much rather make a bold move in July, with much more information

On the one hand, I agree with this. On the other hand, I don't want to underestimate how much Polanco fucking sucks at hitting baseballs hard.

prospects are also like very volatile stocks.

if you were rating a prospect's trade value on a scale of 1 to 10, with 10 being absolute max, Brown's was like a 9 last winter. Klaw had him ranked in his top 5 overall, BA had him very highly ranked. Had he been eligible this winter, he'd probably be in the 20s or 30s. His trade value now on a 1-10 scale is probably a 7. If he has 3 mediocre to poor months at AAA, his value is now a 4. Of course if he destroys AAA and improves his defense, his value shoots back up.

its a big gamble. Headley is already a quality MLB player with a few years of pre-FA service time and good numbers outside of his ridiculously unfriendly home park.

Said he still has the hardhat from IBEW something something.

He's going to let Rollins pick his walk up music.

He's just as awesome as ever.

Charlie was there, too, but refused to go on camera, saying it was Jim's time.

I don't care how many games they win this year, I just want a reality show about those men.

Is Headley for Brown an actual rumor or just BSGery

I think the Pads would make that trade if offered

Polanco still fields well enough that if he recovers from surgery sufficiently to be a .280-ish no power hitter, he's still a valuable asset who's getting paid relatively little.

If he sucks again, maybe the rest of the team plays well enough that you can live with one more year on the contract and then make a move after the season. They have to address third base, somehow, after 2012. I'd rather they wait and do it on the open market so they don't have to trade valuable assets from a position of no leverage.

If things are desperate in mid-season, then I'd consider a big move of some kind.

I'll take Headley, cheapish and under team control for a few years, over busted back David Wright, one year left for a ton of money, any day of the week.

I know we want to win it all every year, but this year, we need to win 11 postseason games for this man. and Roy. and Cliff.
