I'm just saying the marginal upgrade from Polanco to Headley is not worth Dom

that may be true. but it depends what polanco we get. if we get a full season of polanco..then i would tend to agree.

Polanco playing but playing hurt is no better than Pete Orr at 3B offensively so I think the need to get a 3B is now(or by trade deadline) and not waiting till next offseason.

You're forgetting about the July trade deadline.

Why burn trade chips for a slight 3B upgrade now when Brown, Mayberry, and Howard (wrt health) are such big question marks?

Yeah, the numbers don't look too bad at all. But that inability to catch up to major league heat is concerning.

I can't wait til the preseason projections come out and everyone calls the Phils old and injured and picks the Marlins to win the division without a single mention of Halladay, Lee or Hamels

i agree..headley has the upside to be a very good player. is he right now? no but his upside is worth taking a chance on.

We got younger in LF. if we got younger at 3b too..this team wouldnt be so ....well....old.

BRef has Headley at 3.6 and 2 WAR the past two years, Polanco 2 and 1.8

I'd trade them straight up, obviously, but not anything close to Brown or Worley +. Why not wait to find about more about Mayberry (and even Brown) before cashing in trade chips?

TBF Headley would also be a pretty large upgrade for 2013 and beyond compared to our current projected 3B.

I like that part of it, yeah. But if we're gonna burn one or both of our best trade chips, I'd rather it be for more of a sure-thing difference-maker in the short term.

another part of this is...trying to find a starter at 3b that isnt necessarily a break the bank guy. how much money are you going to have to throw at cole or cole's replacement next year? and also victorino is a free agent right? lets try and get a young guy with an affordable contract who we have control of for a few years before they get their big payday. doesnt have to be headley..but in my opinion thats the type of player they should be after.

Yeh, that's what I saw right away. I don't ever remember a prospect working out that missed so many cookie fastballs. Good prospects are supposed to kill fastballs. If they can't, then it usually goes downhill from there.

Was Dom always a disaster defensively? I don't remember reading about him being horrible defensively from Keith Law and his friends over the years. You think the fact that he can't read fly balls off the bat would have come up.

I remember reading he was a little "raw" but athletic and strong-armed enough to make up for it. And to be fair, it didn't get horrific until the second Lehigh stint, which could have been attitude/focus.

He was pretty mediocre in the Arizona Fall League. Wasn't completely lost, however.

wRC+ adjusts for ballpark, don't really need to do home/road splits there. Point taken though.

Can he stick at third? Hasn't he played a fair amount of LF?
