Did bringing him up early really set him back that much, or is it easier to make this call with the emergence of Mayberry?

This also means they're gonna need a left handed outfield bat for the bench.

"Not comfortable" with internal closer candidates. Will sign Madson or another FA

Rube says he isn't comfortable with internal candidates for closer so if Madson isn't signed, he'd seek a veteran arm elsewhere.

Maybe he's saying that to take the pressure off, tell him he's got a year to get comfortable, fully recover from his hambone surgery, and find his approach at the plate, then Rube can always change his mind if Brown is tearing the cover off the ball in June and bring him up.

Says he doesn't foresee many or any trades -- core is good enough to just fill in through free agency

I don't think so at all. He seemed totally sincere there. It's un-Rube to say he wants a guy he knows is gone.

I was just going with the opposite of everything rube says. I have no idea what is going to happen with him. Although, I dosee it possible that some team out there may be in love with him and offer him a deal he can't refuse.

The only thing I somewhat doubt is the thing about not making trades, although it's true he has rarely done that in the offseason. With everything else I found him surprisingly candid.

Anyone else see that Phillies postmortem montage on CSN where they kept flashing the team's age and batting averages in the background? All it needed was the Six Feet Under theme music for fuck's sake
