Stark had a thing on his twitter yesterday about no team ever being more than 7 games back in September coming back to make the playoffs (Rays were 9.5 this year). I replied to him that the 1964 St. Louis Cardinals were 8.5 behind the Phillies at one point in September.

Thinking about all the 9/11 coverage yesterday got me thinking about the 2001 team and as the Inky article a few days mentioned, how far the organization has come in those 10 years.

In the post 9/11/01 world, the Phillies were sitting in 2nd place in the NL East, 3 1/2 games back of the Atlanta Braves, at 75-68. Their last game before 9/11 was 12-4 defeat of the Expos in front of 5K-odd fans in Olympic Stadium.

Since the fateful day, the Phillies have gone 901-718, a very respectable .557 winning percentage.

The only team with more wins? The Cardinals, who are 904-718 AND have played three more games than the Phillies.

The Barves are 894-729.

My favorite part, 10 years later the Phillies are 94-49, holding a 12 game lead in a division they're about to win for the fifth time in a row, while holding the best record in baseball by a very comfortable margin.

Awesome.

Remember on BSG Day II two years ago when a Phils fan was beaten to death in the parking lot?

They're just now picking the jury

We sorta discussed it on the last few pages of the GDT

so, he asks impatiently, do we think that if we clinch prior to Saturday I'll be able to get 4 tickets at reasonable (i.e. close to retail) prices for Saturday night's game, or should I just jump on whatever I can find right now???

I doubt they'll make a big deal about it. It will be more like an excuse to drink champagne.

They will do a little something for those who have never been to the postseason like Pence, Stutes, Worley, etc.
