I think the "sheer mehness" was for your suggestion that the Phillies bean O'Flaherty the next time they face the Braves.

Admittedly I was sleep deprived and angry and prone to rash, completely impossible ideas, but i still feel retribution is necessary. I'd say bean Fuggla as revenge, but I'd say bean Fuggla for the sheer fact it's Fuggla.

I hate the Braves more than anything which I thought was pretty evident by the way I talked about the whole situation. I just don't need to trump it up with teen angst all the time

So, uh, just to be controversial, I've never been a fan for actually calling for the beaming of another player. I mean, great if you, the pitcher, are confident you can plunk a guy in the arse and leave him wincing as he limps down to first, but as much as I hate the fucking braves, there's hard play and there's intentionally fucking someone up. The latter may be understandable, but if the outcome is serious it's hard to forgive. Put it another way, more selfishly. I would hate to think of any of the phils pitching staff having to take responsibility for killing or severely injuring another player. I mean, I hope they'd be responsible about it, but you know what I mean. They get paid a fuck ton to play a game etc and so forth. It's not the kind of work environment where you expect to kill someone, you know?Who would wish that on anyone, even a fucking barve?

I tell you what is fucking unforgivable, mind. All this shite Barry j utters about them being 10 games back and irrelevant etc. Fuck that. Grind those whinging shitebags into the ground.

Next series CLIFF LEE will hit a line drive off O'Flaherty's forehead then be all "eh, whatever" when the camera pans to him on 1B (or 2B, depending on how far the ball caroms).

Cliff hits a line drive, it's not bouncing off anything. They'll be bagging the ball and bagging o'flaherty after they fill the hole full of sand to stop the claret gushing all over the shop.

When Rollins claimed the Phillies were, “The team to beat,” it was a precursor to all that the team has achieved, he said.

“In short, yeah. Without 2007, without me coming out saying, ‘We’re the team to beat,’ without all of that, the organization operates the way it always has -- that’s just willing to be competitive and going out there fielding a team and hoping one day we'll be good,” Rollins told CSN. “Since that day there’s no longer a hope. It was, ‘We have to prove it every single time out here.’ Then fans showed up. With fans came money. Then players came over. Then better players came over. Then we won the World Series in between all of that. And this is where we are today. And it started with that little mustard seed and that little spark. Without that, I don't think it would be the same.”

Is this just a swagg way to look at, as a nice story, or is jroll a prophet?

now look, I'm not trading my sig line in at this late stage in the season, no matter how good the new material is
Yes, but in a double utley you can put your utley on top they other guy's utley, and you're the winner. (Swish)

Well, it wasn't just saying it. Took guts to say it, yeah, but once it was out there, he made it happen. Who would have ever thought he'd win the MVP before that season? And that huge comeback? He played his best against the Mets that season and down the stretch. I think having that target on his back the whole season was a big part of that. He showed everyone that when the pressure was on, he was able to play his best. So, I agree with him that doing that changed everything. Can't prove it but that's how I feel about it.

Yea, I definitely agree with that. After a few years of being in playoff contention and falling out at the end, he did make it happen by having a huge year. I feel like he gave the team some much needed relevancy with that quote. It was after the Mets had reached the NLCS and were the clear favorites in the division for the forthcoming year. Obviously their collapse played a big part in it, but he put our up and coming team on the map with his season/our comeback. The rest is history.
I didn't think there was any way that he wouldn't be back next year before reading this and I feel even more strongly about it. He's pretty much the face of the franchise and there's no way they let him walk this offseason. I don't think he'd walk either, even if they only offered him 2 years. Maybe I'm just being optimistic here, but he's a phils-lifer.

The part of that that's conveniently forgotten is he was basically saying "We're the team to beat, BECAUSE WE GOT FREDDY GARCIA."

Yeah, that's the funny part. But he didn't remind anyone of that. He didn't say, well Freddy got hurt so leave me alone. He continued to own it throughout the season.

I wonder how much the team to beat quote messed with their minds. They blew their chance at the WS and then here was someone from a team that hadn't been in the playoffs in 13 years saying that THEY were the team to beat? And they reacted to it like a team that wasn't extremely confident. They were bothered by it. It's fun for me to think that him saying that actually contributed to their collapse because at the end of the season, after the Phillies swept them in that 4 game series, they started wondering, maybe it is true.
