hate rowand so hard, and he sucks at this point in his career, but I might not mind him back, just to make things interesting.

and if he actually did come back, i'll start to love him again because he'll do something awesome or become a best friend with someone awesome. or something.

Rowand has had a crazy go nuts kind of career. The last year he was in Philly (2007) he hit 45 doubles; 27 homers; walked some and put up an .889 OPS. He was an All Star and a Golden Glove in CF and he even drew some MVP votes. That season nearly matched his superb 2004 when he hit .310; slugged .544 and OPSed .905.

In 2005 the ChiSox won it all and he got a lot of credit even though he was pretty average. In fact, besides 2004 and 2007; Rowand has been pretty mediocre. The last two seasons he's been just plain bad. He only had 11 post season at bats last season for the Giants and, in fact, he hasn't been very good in the post season.

This guy has two WFC rings and an 11 year career fueled by two superb seasons and a reputation for moxie and stuff.

There were quite a few folks who wanted to keep him in 2007. Glad we didn't.

He has a .766 career OPS as a pinch hitter including .820 and 1.115 in the last two seasons. The Phils are often impressed by stuff like that.
Teams lie, sometimes for good reasons, sometimes for bad. They do it to get an advantage while they look at the trade market or just because they can

I don't know if there's ever been a collective shrug as unpronounced as the one when he signed with the Giants

Except from Rowand himself:

"The only thing you can really go on is track record. And if you look at mine, it's actually pretty good. A lot better than a lot of people," Rowand said. "It's one of those things I don't quite understand and I don't think I ever will."

"From the beginning, with looking at past and what guys had gotten, guys like Gary Matthews Jr. and Juan Pierre, and myself going onto the market, it was pretty much a no-brainer. There was no reason why I didn't deserve a 5-year contract. Career numbers, not just last season. So that's what we were trying to get from the beginning. And the Phillies said no, we're not going to do that.

"Hopefully, I've found a place to stay in San Francisco. Talking with the owner and talking with the general manager and talking with the people in the front office here, they want me to be a part of this organization for a long time to come. They're talking past 5 years."

Folks wanted him for 3/$30 million or something around there. When the Giants went 5/$80 million pretty much everyone went: "ewwwwwwww don't wanna do that."

Rowand, Sarge Jr. AND Magic Juan? What a bumper outfielder market that was.

I meant to use him in the playoffs. There's no point picking him up for the last month.

Whose spot would he take? They don't need a RH outfield bat with Mayberry and Francisco

I believe I said that he would be a righty pinchhitter when Mayberry starts.

I also said that it doesn't make sense to make the move, but if they did, that's why they would say they did it.

I'm pretty much exactly agreeing with you here, barry
