I know what a flawed statistic the RBI is, but the other day on the radio it was mentioned that Ryan Howard has the most RBIs of any player ever in his first 1,000 games aside from Ted Williams.

Any time you can say that the only other player to do what player X has done is Ted Williams, I think it's worthy of mention & praise.

Congrats Ryan!

Not that I didn't like Thome, and not that I don't appreciate what his arrival eventually signified for the club, but I'm always going to wonder what it would have been like if Ryan entered the league a few seasons earlier. Probably more of an adjustment period, and he'd never hit Pujols' BA, but his RBI and HR production would have been that much greater. Hypothetically speaking, of course. Still, quite the achievement for Ryno.

I don't like Rowand either, but... are you being sarcastic again?

Baseball Tonight had a little segment thingy on what September baseball means ... included were Cole, Mariano Rivera, Ron Washington, and Cody Ross...
Even if you get run over by a clown car and pissed on by a busload of school children, it's still your responsibility to interpret the meaning of the event and choose a response

I may call BS on that rumor.

I guess they might argue that he could be the righty bat off the bench when Mayberry starts, but they would have to DL Gload and try to use Rowand as a replacement. It might be hard to convince the league that Gload is any more injured than he's been all season.

I guess it's possible, but it more sounds like a writer desperately trying to find something to write about.

They wouldn't have to do that at all. The rosters expanded so he only has to replace someone on the 40-man. Drew Naylor is still on the 40-man. They could decide they no longer have a use for him or Juan Perez or Pete Orr or Mike Zagurski or Scott Mathieson or another of their younger minor leaguers.

Re: Rowand - the one thing about him is that since leaving here he has straight raked at CBP. It would be a totally nothing move if they did get him, so you can ask why, but you could just as easily ask why not?

The temptation to keep him next year is why not.

Unfortunately, the chances that Rowand actually kills a teammate are just as high.

I would rather have Gload than Rowand. Screw Rowand, he already has an undeserved WS ring from last year. We don't need to get him another one.
