He's having a fine year, no complaints about Jimmy. It's just when you look at the triples numbers, it tells you, in rather stark terms, what you know intellectually but isn't always as apparent: he's getting older, and won't play forever.

:(

I :h: Jimmy.

You ain't right in the head if you can't complain about anything with Yimmy.

You must really enjoy all those first pitch pop-outs.

You must really enjoy being a terrible poster.

Oh come on dude, it's been the same with him since 2001. Sometimes he's gonna do that. It's the player he is: if you haven't accepted it by now, I don't know what to say.

Assuming 700 PAs for Jimmy (which would be well in line with his career average excluding last year, and he is on pace for at least that many this year), Jimmy is on pace for 62 BBs, which would be a career high. That is pretty much the definition of aging with grace in my view - what you lose in bat speed you make up for in improved K-zone recognition.

I kind of can't get over how ridiculous that post was 5th Round Pick. Jimmy Rollins is our Derek Jeter pretty much. I know, some people think that role goes to Utley, but really it's Rollins. He's not perfect, but he is Mr. Phillies.

It's not that, it's just that Rollins actually has pretty good numbers swinging first pitch.

Even better, but if he didn't, it wouldn't matter.

Yep. JRoll's our Derek Jeter. I'm the ridiculous one. One's a hall of famer. The other is not.

Eh. I'm prolly being tough on JRoll, becaus he is a little frustrating sometimes. I just checked and didn't realize his WAR at 3.2 is 17th best in all of baseball and only Tulo and Reyes are better at shortstop. Not bad for a guy that's not necessarily in his prime.

I'd still offer him the same exact contract JJ Hardy just got. I'm not into paying a guy for past performance.

Remember he made that error that time? He sucks.

Jeter will sail into the HoF on the first ballot, of course, but it's possible that Rollins will end up having a more valuable career. Depends mostly how you rate them defensively. Some defensive stats have Jeter as literally the worst defensive shortstop of all time.

If J-Roll can get to 2500 hits (he needs 680 more, so 4.5 seasons of 150 each) and 250 HRs (He needs 85 more for that, so that's a longer shot; would need about 20 a season across the same period time), he's a lock. 220 HRs and 2200 hits are more reachable, don't know if that get him there though.

However, I obviously wasn't speaking in an absolute sense when I compared Rollins to Jeter. I was comparing Rollins' role and status on this team with Jeter's role and status with the Yankees.

FFS.

Matthew Riethmaier was the Phillies 5th round pick in 2000.

Greg Lewis went undrafted then was traded for a 5th round pick.
