2011 Random Phillies Stuff V: The Umpires Strike Back

Please don't jump all over me for this, as I know the Mets are 9.5 games out, etc., but should we be at all concerned that the Mets have apparently rediscovered their offensive mojo? They've put quite a few runs on the board of late; obviously, this pace won't continue, but their offense is starting to look pretty good actually.

I mean, I realize the Phils are much better in a lot of ways, but the one thing that concerns me about this team is that they could theoretically get outslugged. Halladay and Lee are around the plate a lot, and so can give up some hits. I think the worst matchup for the Phillies will be a team that can score in bunches, because the Phils' lineup has shown a distinct inability to do so against even mediocre pitching.

So, teams like the Yankees and Reds, for example, are the sort who could give the Phils' a problem, insofar as the Phils offense has a tendency to make decidedly mediocre pitchers look like Cy Youngs. Whereas the Braves don't scare me at all.

Wondering if the Mets could join the former class.

And obviously, this question would be contingent on the Mets being able to make the playoffs, which as of right now doesn't appear to be out of the question. I realize the Mets probably won't win enough to catch the Phils for the division. I am thinking more on a short-series level.

Moz I think you should be more concerned with the Pirates finding a way to win the central. And more than both you should be worried about getting struck by lightning whilst being eaten by a shark.

Yeah, I don't really know what came over me. Shock I guess. The Mets dropping that number of runs on an opponent? Twice in two days? You understand.

It's kinda funny really. When I met you at the tailgate you looked nothing like a neurotic old woman. Sit back, relax, and enjoy the ride.

I am very much enjoying it. Like I said, it was more the shock of seeing the Mets scoring all those runs. It made me delirious enough to ask, "Hey, what if they are good or something?"

If I was picking teams I don't want to play in the playoffs, I'm pretty sure I'm putting Milwaukee first on that list.

Would pay serious money to get the fucking Mets in the NLCS. Are you kidding me what that bullshit? The Mets?

The players are just showcasing for other teams. Jockeying for position in line for the lifeboat on that sinking ship.

FFS moz, the Mets aren't going to be anything resembling the same offense after they sell off Reyes and Beltran.

That and starting the clock on Schwim, also Carpenter is a minor league free agent next year so it wouldnt be a bad idea to see if he's worth keeping by checking him out in the majors

Its past the Super 2 threshold and I doubt a middle reliever is much of a concern re: arbitration status.

Its totally a 40 man roster issue.
