Looking at their stats right now, this is almost exactly right.

I guess it's seeing Ibanez every day that does it, but I was sure he would be worse.

Haven't seen this nugget recently...

"Andy Martino of The New York Daily News speculates about the possibility of Mets center fielder Carlos Beltran winding up with the Phillies at the trade deadline."

right now i don't give a crap about our outfielders. once Cholly figures out he should be platooning Ibanez and Francisco in left everything will be as good as it can get

even though i think that cholly has a good track record of eventually figuring out non-romero things, i don't think it's going to happen with the lf platoon thanks to the reverse splits of ibanez and francisco. barring one more hot month from raul that makes his salary tradeable, i don't see the outfield changing.

138 OPS+?

Hell yeah.

Also, the off-the-charts Fugees implosion factor if he helps the Phils down the stretch and/or in the playoffs cannot be ignored.

Beltran is still an excellent player and a massive upgrade over Ibanez and Francisco. That would be awesome

Hits LHP, known to excel in walk year (which he's in), no long-term commitment, best available option.

I fear the WIP crowd would be champing at the bit waiting for the first time Beltran didn't throw himself into the nearest obstruction in order to catch a baseball, so that they could begin the "he's a dog!!!!!" cries.

Since Beltran hasn't played left field in forever, in this crazy scenario, does he go there? Do we move Dom?

If the Mets would trade Beltran to the Phillies - which I doubt - what do you suppose they'd want for him? And isn't Beltran a 10/5 guy? So he could veto any trade, and try to hold somebody up for a contract extension.

Although why he'd want to stay on the Mets is beyond me.

It's a bigger risk for the Phils. The Mets might regret trading Beltran to the Phils for a few months (if at all). The Phils could regret who they trade for years.
