Couldn't they have found a better pic? Looks like a dated photo of a 1970s serial killer. "He was a quiet man who kept to himself".

God I love b-r. So it had never occurred to me to look before, but it turns out Mike Schmidt was the Phillies second round draft pick in 1971.

So, here is a great trivia question: who was their first round pick that year?

(HINT: He did play in the majors, but not with the Phillies.)

Also, unless you remember 1971, you'll probably have to look this up.

Very good! Roy Thomas is the answer - how did you know what he does now?

I remember 1971, but I still had to look it up. In my defense, many of the picks were eminently forgettable.Man, what a crapshoot that first round was.

Phillies actually landed more MLB players around those years than I remembered. It wasn't until a few years later that we had a string of Sammye Wellborn (really),Jeff Kraus. Scott Munninghof, Rip Rollins, Henry Powell and Johnny Abrego.

Raul needs 4 RBI to reach 1000 for his career. this is pretty remarkable when you consider he only had 112 entering his age 30 season.

In lesser milestones, Rollins' next triple will be his 100th and Polanco is 101 hits away from 2000, which he should reach this season if he can get the Babip pendulum to swing his way again (.236 since May 1).

Cripes. I live here and I didn't know that. To be honest, I never heard of Illahee Middle School either. Must be in the good part of town.

corresponding move to be made tomorrow

Ricky Bo thinks it's because he opened his mouth. Even though that happened last week.

Despite putrid overall numbers vs lefties this year, that's now three big late inning hits vs LOOGYs for Howard...game winner @ SD, Saturday night winner and today

Given that he's only really been red hot for about 2 weeks to start the season (and also has already gone through a substantial slump), he's had a solid start. 253 ISO and 11% BBs both ahead of last year's marks

Oddly enough, Madson is having a worse year statistically than last. K rate down, BB rate up, WHIP up. Not that these stats mean a whole lot for a reliever anyway, just found it interesting.
