Couple things from twitter today:

Nolan Ryan was hospitalized in Texas for tests after experiencing discomfort. They think it's related to his heart condition which has been problematic.

Also the Giants will make their White House visit a week from today, one day before they head up to CBP.

No idea how to look this up, but has anyone ever hit for the reverse natural cycle (HR, 3B, 2B, 1B)?

I thought he was being sarcastic. Hard to tell on this Internet thingy.

Wikipedia has this information on their cycle information page - Since 1956, three "reverse natural" cycles have been accomplished, i.e., the home run was followed by the triple, then the double, and finally the single: Jim Fregosi (1968), Luke Scott (2006), and Carlos Gómez (2008).

I'm guessing one of the other reference sites might have the data prior to 1956.

For real, what the hell happened to Adam Dunn?

.160/.290/.302. 64 OPS+.

I guess he should be grateful he has a .290 OBP with a .160 BA and .302 SLG.

Last year his line was:

.260/.356/.536. 138 OPS+

Holy shit that is some bad year he is having, and one precipitous drop off.

He's making 12M this year, 14M next, then 15M for the two years after that. I thought that maybe he hit better when he played the field compared to being a DH (which would explain his extreme descent after going to the AL) but somehow he managed to hit MUCH worse as a 1B than DH. In 59 PA he has a .380 OPS.

Is there any way to predict why/when/who is more likely to have a drop-off year like this? Is this random or do a high percentage of MLB players fluctuate wildly in their production from year to year? It often seems to my naked eye that a power guy will go way down in average and OBP, and up in strikeouts, but still keep some modicum of power.

I'm really not a fan of long term contracts in sports. I say a base package, and then you get paid for what you do, not what you did. If you have a great year, you get more at the end, if you don't - you don't.

That's the way they used to do it, and the players consistently got hosed by the owners. It's the players' turn to hose them.

The six teams on the west coast are the six worst run-scoring teams in baseball

They'd probably hit better if they started their games at a reasonable hour. Who wants to start a baseball game at 10pm?

Anyone know where online I can find video of Bowa's epic in game rant when he was on the Cubs?
