They're trying to make a career like that sellout self-hater William Hung?

Zach Braff and Donald Faizon were guests on Jimmy Kimmel last night. Very funny guys, you can tell they are really friends outside the show in fact they said they were roomates for a while in NY while the show was on hiatus. Did a song from the musical episode at the end of their appearance, it was about non-gay man love. Very funny. Also Zach Braff hinted if the show comes back for another season he'd be on it.

No I mean these people are actually retarded in some way, shape, or form.

Opie and Anthony made me laugh out loud today when they were playing the fat kid with the lisp from last night and they called him the real life Cartman. I hope someone on YouTube does a mashup

The funny thing about it was, the fat kid wasn't THAT BAD, he wasn't good or even ok, but there were so many people who appeared to possess all of their mental faculties that were way worse. The first chick was awful, and the fat kids friend, the bush baby, was way worse.

This trend of people intentionally acting like asses for attention really takes the "sting" out of the accusation that the show is just about watching people be humiliated for me. O&A played one kid (the "rocker"), they didn't trash him or many any snide comments, they were just straightforward - you're voice won't last, it sounds the same no matter what song you're singing, you should stay with a band.

Are there many people that honest-to-God think they have a chance that really get brutalized? I always got the impression it was the egomaniacs and goof offs that got the beat downs.

On the food channel, you can see my town's festival, the World championship steak cook-off. I'm not sure if I should be bothered that my doctor is featured.

It's on a couple of times this weekend, so if you happen to see it while channel surfing, well, that's something.

Usually you can tell it's a gag or the people are just trying to get on TV and get smashed by Simon. But in certain instances, it's painfully obvious that some of them really really do think they're good -- or they have some sort of mental deficiency like the fat kid. When the latter is the case they're usually really nice to the contestant and quietly usher them along out of the room. It's the people that really truly believe they are talented that get smashed the worst. And I love it.

I don't get how some of the horrible people think they are good. They always claim that friends/family told them that they have a good voice. This indicates to me that this person either A) lives in a tone deaf household/community or B) Their friends/family HATE them.

I think it's a combination of the 2, usually.

Did you ever see that episode of The Partridge Family where Keith falls in love with this girl, and because he thinks she has a great voice, invites her to sing with the family? Because the thing is, she has a terrible voice, it's just that because Keith loves her, he hears a great voice. The rest of the Partridge Family doesn't say anything for awhile, because they don't want to hurt her or Keith's feelings. I forget how it ends, but I'm sure Danny was involved in some wacky hijinks.

I don't get the people that come in dressed up like asses. Do they really think they are gonna get throuhg? Granted I don't watch the show regularly, I usually catch one city's tryouts per season while flipping around, but I don't think I've ever seen a gimmick person get through. Wearing a costume is not what they are looking for, they want attractive good singers, not goof balls. Tyler Hicks not withstanding.

All of the people auditioning are pre-screened. Someone else listens to them first and then decides who gets to see the judges. They put through the really good people and the really bad people. The really bad people that you see on tv know they can't sing, but think it's humorous to pretend they think they can sing and WANT TO GET ON TV. They get on tv because Fox thinks it's good ratings. Which apparently it is since many people admit to watching only the first episodes that show the bad singers.

Interesting point. However, my reasoning was that in my experience, if my friends/family really love someone, they're honest with them.

For example, I have twin cousins, one of whom is a really good singer. The other one, not so much. So we don't lie to him about that. We tell him, "look you kinda suck, you should refrain from belting songs in public."

Ah, but there's the rub--Keith really thought she did sing well. He was blinded by love. I doubt your affection for your cousin is the same thing.

He has been writing for awhile. And is like a supervisory producer. The guy who plays Toby is also a writer and really hates acting because he has never really acted before..

Novak is first and foremost a writer, it's what he was hired for.

The girl who plays his girlfriend is also a writer. Both were put into the show after they were hired and others decided to cast them instead of casting proper actors.
