They're trying to make a career like that sellout self-hater William Hung?

No I mean these people are actually retarded in some way, shape, or form.
Opie and Anthony made me laugh out loud today when they were playing the fat kid with the lisp from last night and they called him the real life Cartman. I hope someone on YouTube does a mashup

O&A played one kid (the "rocker"), they didn't trash him or many any snide comments, they were just straightforward - you're voice won't last, it sounds the same no matter what song you're singing, you should stay with a band.
Are there many people that honest-to-God think they have a chance that really get brutalized? I always got the impression it was the egomaniacs and goof offs that got the beat downs.

I think it's a combination of the 2, usually.

Did you ever see that episode of The Partridge Family where Keith falls in love with this girl, and because he thinks she has a great voice, invites her to sing with the family? Because the thing is, she has a terrible voice, it's just that because Keith loves her, he hears a great voice. The rest of the Partridge Family doesn't say anything for awhile, because they don't want to hurt her or Keith's feelings. I forget how it ends, but I'm sure Danny was involved in some wacky hijinks.

Interesting point. However, my reasoning was that in my experience, if my friends/family really love someone, they're honest with them.
