The Wade hate had a lot to do with it. He made it sound like we got Halladay for Johnny Estrada, and the guy's had double-digit losses almost every year in his career, then in September when the Phils needed him most for a playoff run, he could barely get through 5 innings in every start, the Phils lost 4 of the 5, and the friggin Fish end up going on to win the World Series instead. Then when everyone assumed he was one-and-done, Wade offers $11M arbitration thinking he won't take it, and when he did, it ate up money that could've been used to fix the bullpen, and sure enough he goes 9-6 with an ERA near 5.00 and a WHIP near 1.500 and the Phils finished 10 games out. Total dog. Loved the no-hitter, but that's it....

I wonder if there were message boards in 2004 where fans ripping Millwood and his 4.85 ERA were reminded about his BABIP

OK, so look at that. That Cubs logo is clearly screened on, right? It wouldn't be shiny otherwise. The Mitchell & Ness 80s-era throwbacks always have these logos sewn right on to the jerseys, but I don't think that is accurate in a lot of cases. I think a lot of teams used a heavy screened logo in the 1980s instead.

Ok, I get it then. I thought people hated Millwood for something about his personality, but it's nothing like that. It's just that he was an inconsistent pitcher for his first few years without Leo Mazzone. Ed Wade couldn't predict that, but then again, he didn't have to offer him the arbitration.

I think Millwood hurling his glove into the crowd as he walked off the field following his final start of 2003 (at the last ever game at the Vet, no less) sealed his fate with a lot of people.

The whole pitching in 30 deg. temps with freezing rain may have something to do with the stiffness...

oy. It seems highly doubtful he would pitch again before they return home on Monday. Just DL him now

Ryan Howard's ISO is 120 points lower than his career average and his HR/FB is half his career average. Last 10 hits have been singles.
