If my interpretation of Dewan and my math are correct, Chase Utley made 30 more plays to his left against left-handed batters in 2008 than Brandon Phillips, who was the second-best 2B in that regard. That amounts to more than 40 points in batting average over a full season. That's fucking ridiculous. Dewan admitted that Phillips is more athletic, but goddammit CUYATM.

I guess, but the guy is about to be 32 years old. At some point doesn't the "options" rule cease to apply? Like when a guy signs a free agent minor league contract?
they were a chick hanging out with her friends at a bar, the Phillies would be the 320 lb chick with a nose wart and a dick - Trent Steele
It seems like the Phils of recent memory always get up a bunch of games over .500 around this time of year just before going into a small tailspin and ending up just a game or two ahead or even falling behind a bit before turning it back on. Just a matter of whether it starts now or after the Pirates series, pretty much.

I had the placement a bit off; last year they had an awful June (+12 on June 4) and were only 2 games above .500 on July 2nd. Then they went on a tear and were back to +15 by July 21st.
In 2008, they were +13 on June 8th, down to +5 by June 27, hovered around there til July 25, then gradually clawed back up and shut it down in mid-September.

We suck in inter league pay which is in June. That is, until this year. Plus, at some point we get real players back and don't have to depend on the heroic but inept Castro; Exxon; and Hoover.
If we get lucky and Happ returns hale and hearty or they sign Pedro or something, we might get to see some serious shit -- like some DeLorean 88 MPH stuff.
Teams lie, sometimes for good reasons, sometimes for bad. They do it to get an advantage while they look at the trade market or just because they can
