Jesse Carlson was the guy who started a brawl against the Yankees. I like that guy. However, that rumor could have been started by a construction worker in Blue Bell for all we know.

The inclusion of Jesse Carlson and Anthony Hewitt is too random so there's gotta be some truth to it, no? If someone was making it up, they'd hardly think to include Carlson.

It also makes a lot of sense to include Hewitt. It would be the same as we when we got C.J. Henry. It would allow the Jays to sell to the fans that they also got a number 1 pick with a lot of potential even though he is really just a throw in.

Absolutely CRAZY speculation by realken.

Trade Cliff Lee to get big time prospects and include part of that package to get Halladay.

so get rid of Lee & Happ and get Halladay in return? Seems to net to something less desirable than keeping Lee for a year and simply forking over prospects to get Halladay and making budget adjustments elsewhere.

It won't happen, but trading Lee if he's determined to be a FA is not as crazy as it sounds. There are just too many moving parts to make it all work.

I think if it went down like this we'd retain Happ -- that Brown/Taylor and some of the prospects netted from the third team would go to Toronto.

Halladay (signed long-term)
Hamels
Blanton
Happ

Not as exciting as Lee being in that mix for a year, obviously, but preferable to no move.

Absolutely. It's not the ideal outcome but it's better than not getting Halladay at all for one big reason: Lee is likely gone after 2010 and Halladay, if he's traded, may have already signed a long-term deal. So you risk having neither after next year. In that scenario, it's better to have Halladay than Lee because you've probably signed Halladay to a long-term deal. Plus you'd get somebody decent for Lee, making the hit on the farm system a bit less in the Halladay deal.

I suspect if the Phils get Halladay, RAJ will figure out a way to do it without moving Lee. But, if all else fails, you'd rather have Halladay than Lee.

Lee's salary is $9 million this year and you get 2 draft picks when he leaves. He's an ideal player to have on a roster, there's no way in hell they'd be looking to trade him.

So wait? Ken is suggesting that we trade Lee and one of Taylor/Brown for Halladay?

Haha...c'mon now Kenny.

Kenny seems to be under the misunderstanding that Toronto has any leverage in this deal. They don't. Halladay is leaving for draft picks in a year and can block any trade to a destination to which he doesn't want to go.

Plus, its a stupid idea. The point of getting Halladay is load up for 2010. If Lee walks for picks next year so be it.
