I'm assuming if they did that with Victorino it could get them more back to add to their internal offer, maybe helping ensure that Drabek stays out (Taylor would have to stay out too right, cause he's MLB ready unlike Brown?)....question is what contending team would want to aggressively spend for 2 years of Vic? Any ideas?

I'm thinking that Taylor stays in the deal (or at least that's the Phillies' preference vs Brown). If so, they may not be as inclined to move Vic, since Brown isn't quite ready.

Lets get Ed Wade on the phone

Which team is the... ha ha... "favorite" in the AL Central next year? That's the kind of division where an addition like Victorino could theoretically give an edge to any of the White Sox, Twins, or Tigers.

I can't imagine any NL team making a deal for Victorino or Blanton, because they'd have to know that taking either of those players would be like giving Halladay to the Phillies. Teams not contending won't (or at least, shouldn't) be interested, and my top trade candidate for the Phillies wrt Victorino this offseason, the Yankees, have already gotten themselves a CFer. Perhaps the Angles would be interested, except that taking Victorino would be like giving the Phillies Halladay.

Maybe Billy Beane in Oakland can see value in holding Victorino and/or Blanton as trade chips for later or draft-picks for later.

But right now, I would think the market is in lockdown on this. The Phillies might have to get Halladay first, then take $0.40 on the dollar for Vic or Blanton or both in order to move the payroll they need to move.

I am saying given moving Vic you'd think they'd keep Taylor right? Although I guess they could also stick to their guns if they really liked Brown as the next Carl Crawford, trade Vic and Taylor (probably in a 3 team scenario like above) and play Francisco in CF....his bat plays pretty well compared to many CF

Blanton and someone like Victorino either have value to other teams or not. I don't think the timing of the trade(s) matters. Grab Halladay and then deal with the rest.

I don't think this is going to happen folks. The clock is ticking. If we don't hear anything in the next 90 minutes, we should move on to something else.

Stark is reporting that Halladay's camp and Amaro are in deep negotiations in the basement of the Alamo.

I was really believing the first half of that sentence. Then came the "basement of the Alamo" part. That was cruel!

Actually it's across the alley from the Alamo.

SportsCenter says that Amaro shot down all the reports that they were the leaders for Halladay and that they were unlikely to get him. I have no idea if they legitimately asked him or if they are just recycling information from the past day or so.

Gee, a wild guess tells me it's the latter.

Olney:

Heard this: The Jays' asking price for Roy Halladay, in their negotiations with the Phillies, is about the same as it was before the July 31 trade deadline, when Toronto essentially insisted upon a package of Kyle Drabek, J.A. Happ, outfielder Dominic Brown and others.

They can demand that and we will just turn around and get Cliff Lee.
