i don't think halladay gets dealt to anyone. the jays are convinced they will lose lots of fan loyalty and revenue if he goes for anything less than an obviously great return in young talent. they would rather get the draft picks and see him sign a crazy-high deal elsewhere that their fans would find forgiveably unaffordable. plus, with him, there's still a decent chance of having everything come together to put them in the 2010 playoffs. without him, there's no chance. their minimum price really is still the equivalent of happ+drabek+brown/taylor + francisco/mayberry, and nobody's going to pay that and halladay's salary too.

the phils just need to keep enough on the table to make sure he doesn't go to a key rival at a cheap price if someone in the jays organization panics.

i'm pretty ok with this, especially since it sounds like getting him means losing both happ and blanton, and not having cash to sign pedro.
happ+blanton+pedro + (moyer and kendrick in the pen) could well better overall than halladay+moyer+kendrick + (2 vacancies in the pen).
if smuggy signs pedro and keeps halladay out of the nl in 2010, he can still be justifiably smug.

of course, he can be a lot more smug if he turns victorino into a good shortstop prospect.

But.... but.....

11:36pm: One baseball source tells Tom Verducci of SI.com that the Phillies have been "very aggressive" in their efforts to obtain Halladay. Apparently the Phils are trying to find the players the Blue Jays want, even if that means looking on other teams.

This HAS to be true!

I know what you're asking yourself and the answer is yes. I have a nick name for my penis. Its called the Octagon, but I also nick named my testes - my left one is James Westfall and my right one is Doctor Kenneth Noisewater.

if he goes to the phillies we should avoid the FA market altogether in 2010 because we would have no fucking chance

This is why I so desperately want to to get Halladay. Kill their spirit.

I wonder how the 'Fugees feel about that Verducci piece, and its central premise. Passed over, like Fredo?

So if the Angels made an offer and the Jays are waiting to see what the Phillies want to do....does Amaro have enough time to move all the pieces he has to move around before the Jays just take the Angels offer and be done with it? (This is taking for granted the Angels offer was really made and that it is good enough.)

Two sources reported that the Angels offer was crap. From the Phillies, three team deal makes some sense with a 3rd getting Blanton, and the player/prospect from that team going to Toronto as an add-on

I'm assuming if they did that with Victorino it could get them more back to add to their internal offer, maybe helping ensure that Drabek stays out (Taylor would have to stay out too right, cause he's MLB ready unlike Brown?)....question is what contending team would want to aggressively spend for 2 years of Vic? Any ideas?

Teams that IMO would be most interested in Vic: White Sox, Cubs when they move Bradley, maybe SF Giants (move him to a corner). KC needs an CF and you can never count out Moore but they'd be better off going cheaper/more controllable

A lot of mid/big market, contender types have CFs already
