That makes a lot more sense, but that's not how it was phrased in that news story. I'm guessing he just wanted to lump the pitching prospects together rather than actually write it correctly.

I think the Phils have a deal in place for Lee, but are taking one last pass at Halladay. They've probably told Shapiro they will be back to him with a yes or no by a specific time today. They're using JPR's deadline tactic against him.

What would be great is is they add Drabek, but remove Brown. Drabek, Carrasco, Marson and Donald. You keep Brown, Taylor & Knapp.

I still think it is a ruse by the Phillies and Indians. The Phillies offer a package that is similar to, but slightly less than, what they want to offer to obtain Halladay, but is more than what the Indians are looking for as a return. The Blue Jays come back to the Phillies and say, "substitute Drabek (or Happ) for Knapp and we'll deal with you," which the Phillies agree to do. However, the rough price for Lee has been "set" in the faux trade proposal, so other teams need to match what the Phillies were offering in the Lee sweepstakes. Phillies get Halladay for their price, and the Indians deal Lee for a better package. If the Dodgers deal for Lee, they wind up paying more than they would've originally, which is also beneficial to the Phillies.
