From Jayson Stark-
According to ESPN's fabulous Stats & Information department, this was the first National League game to include any kind of inside-the-park homer and any kind of triple play (unassisted or otherwise) since Sept. 25, 1955. Eerily, that was another game in which the Phillies were playing a team in New York. It was a Phillies-Giants game that featured a Ted Kazanski inside-the-parker in the fifth inning and the Giants' Bobby Hofman lining into a ninth-inning triple play. But the triple play didn't just end the game. It also ended both teams' seasons.

According to Retrosheet.org's game data, Kazanski also started the triple play for the Phillies in that game.

Bobby Hofman (NY1) is the batter with a ?-? count. He hits a line drive to the SS, Ted Kazanski (OUT 1)
SS then flips the ball over to the 2B (Bobby Morgan) who doubles up the runner caught off second, Joey Amalfitano (OUT 2)
2B throws to the 1B (Marv Blaylock) who nips the runner caught off first, Whitey Lockman (OUT 3)
NOTE: END OF GAME

Just overheard at lunch:

"I hope (the Yankees) get to play Texas in the playoffs, they always beat Texas in the playoffs! I just hope they don't have to play the Angels or the Tigers 'cause they can never beat them!"

Last Yankees/Rangers playoff meeting: 1999

and Texas hasn't been back since, but the Yankees knocked them out in the ALDS all 3 times they've been there. That's like Phillies fans declaring they always knock out the Rays...

I just saw in the NY Daily News article about the Wags trade that Boston is looking to trade Papelbon this offseason and give the closer job to Bard. How come?

Because closers tend to be overvalued? Or maybe the rumor is simply that, just a rumor.

tight rope walking? I'm pretty sure his numbers are pretty much the same as always sans a walk here and there.

That being said trading Paplebon can bring in a big return, but he is still as good as he's always been.

So there's a possibility of a division with Lidge, K-Rod, Wagner (Washington) and Papelbon (Florida/Atlanta) next year? Fun!

Fielding Independent pitching:

2006: 2.14
2007: 2.45
2008: 2.01
2009: 3.60*

*Walk rate more than doubled, with a slightly higher HR rate. His fastball has been a lot less effective this year.

yea I didnt look at FIP or anything, just went with what i thought.... i do remember he had like single digit walks last year though, so that's not the easiest thing to maintain.

it quite possibly is a down year for him, sox would be smart to get dump him in the offseason and get good value for him.... He's still going to get a pretty big bump in arbitration this year, as i think they only inked him to a 1 year deal for 09 for like 6 mil

Yeah, his ERA is still solid this year, so he'll be shopped in the hopes that someone overpays. I am just not sure how serious they'd be about it.

Listening to the commerical on MLB Network that has Joe Buck's call when the Red Sox won the World Series in 2004. Then thinking back to when the Phillies won it last year.

Joe Buck sucks.

I love Bobby, so I'm all for the pub he's getting this season, but the idea that he deserves to be an MVP candidate is too funny. His 2009 is virtually no different than his 2005-2008, which represents a graceful decline with age from his peak years. He's still a great offensive player. He has 2082 hits. 3,000 is probably unreachable, but it would be awesome to see
I know what you're asking yourself and the answer is yes. I have a nick name for my penis. Its called the Octagon, but I also nick named my testes - my left one is James Westfall and my right one is Doctor Kenneth Noisewater.

I love how he's getting tons of credit in Anaheim for being patient, taking pitches, and "teaching" his teammates how to do so, when those are the very qualities he was vilified for in Philadelphia.

I don't think it has been mentioned yet, but Carlos Pena has more HR's (37), than singles (35).
Yes son. I'm the best mono-thingy guy there ever was.
