My sister's husband apparently liked Tom McCarthy - until he saw him in a Wawa one day. McCarthy was apparently fulfilling the role of "nouveau riche douche" to a T, Ray-Bans and all.

Don't all clerks hate their patrons?

Pretty sure his sister's husband was also in Wawa, not working there.

Yeah, he's an attorney.

Every time this thread is bumped part of me thinks "maybe there's some progress in the 'getting Tom McCarthy fired' front", but I always end up disappointed.

I was watching some of the replay of the Boise-OU Fiesta Bowl the other day, basically one of the most exciting/compelling sporting events of the past decade, and during OT after Boise scores a potentially tying TD (setting up Statue of Liberty) on a halfback pass of a 4th down (ie, incredible play), instead of making the call and letting the crowd go nuts during the moment, he decides THIS is the time to break into his argument for a playoff system for a good 30 seconds. The color guy to his credit basically wasn't even listening to him and replied "Yeah, what an incredible playcall there!!"

He's worse than TMac. I think TMac is a nice guy. He just can't help but be awful. Thom B is just a smug bastard. He's the worst in the business. The fact that he gets Fox work blows my mind.

I'm a big Sean McDonough fan. I love him doing football and basketball right now. I thought he was great at baseball, too. Loved him in the 93 NLCS. Don't understand why he doesn't get bigger gigs.

There's a guy on a fantasy baseball board I go to who never stops ranting about how much he hates Brenneman. I guess I can understand why.

Between Brenneman, Buck and McCarver, it's obvious that FOX either has no idea what makes a good baseball announcer, or just doesn't care.

This is a simple game. You throw the ball, you hit the ball, you catch the ball.

The Phillies radio broadcast is regularly behind the Comcast HD signal, unfortunately.

So there's something that's really been pissing me off this year. McCarthy RARELY gave the score at the end of an inning going to commercial. If you read the Harry book, you know that is one of his big things- make sure the listeners know the score.

So I noticed in the playoffs now that not a lot of the TBS guys do it either. So it got me thinking. Then I just heard an inning of the Doctober No game- on radio. at the end of each half inning, McCarthy gave the score. Weird.

So I'm wondering if there's some sort of edict put forth by the marketers to tell the PBP guys to NOT give the score at the end of an inning, in an attempt to draw eyes to the screen, for both the on-screen ads that accompany the line score, and to attempt to keep those eyes there for the upcoming commercials.

So maybe this ONE thing isn't Mccarthy's fault. All the evidence seems to be there. Kev1n infiltrate the broadcasting office and get an answer to this pressing question.

Ay yi yi.

Met TMac in Clearwater, he was humble and gracious.

Harry and Whitey were special. Every other Phils announcer is on a different, lower plane.

TMac is the new Andy Musser. Nothing to celebrate but nothing to dislike.

Clearly you've never heard McCarthy on a broadcast.

Lots of people are humble and gracious

Doesn't mean they should be announcing baseball games

Josh Lewin and the Rangers are parting ways. Watched alot of their games on EI this year. He is outstanding. I would pay at least $500 towards McCarthy's buyout if they hire Lewin
