Schmidt is easily the worst of the bunch. So horrible. If you can't pronounce the players' names correctly or be bothered to keep up with the team then you shouldn't be announcing, even if you're the best player in franchise history.

That is not the preferred nomenclature.

I don't mind listening to Stairs. He's a friendly voice and often discusses hitting intelligently, though I wish he'd expand his repertoire.

In fact, I might wish the rest of the crew were better, but there isn't anyone who really annoys me, with the big exception being McCarthy. I hate the screaming homer announcers you encounter sometimes with other teams, but there's something to be said for being on a similar emotional plane to most of your listeners. Sure, he manages to crank himself up to a simulacrum of excitement when there's a home run, but there's not even a hint of disappointment when a double play ends a Phillies rally or a ball splits the gap and erases a Phillies lead. Franzke is a living example that you don't have to be a hometown guy to tell the story of a game in a way that meshes with the rise and fall those who are following along would like to hear.

I actually thought Murph showed potential when he did some PBP last year.

I like Stairs, actually, and McCarthy bothers me less than he used to, probably because he's less bad than he used to be. He's still only mediocre though, the biggest thing with him is that everything just feels very manufactured. Because I know he is a Mets fan.

Why did this thread get bumped today of all days?
