On the upside, he would give Ruiz a fellow Venezuelan to hang out with.

Is this a euphemism for particularly violent masturbation?

According to the Toronto Star, the Jays are only now prepared to make a four-year, $54 million offer to A.J. Burnett.

The team waited because it didn't think agent Darek Braunecker was interested in negotiating before Burnett hit the open market. Burnett is sure to do considerably better than that with another team. $70 million for five years seems like the minimum it will take to sign him this winter.

That should eliminate our interest in Burnett.

Uh, ok, what did I miss? Did someone (maybe Wheeler?) assert Ruiz is Venezuelan at some point?

Sounds like it's time for Paul Byrd to retire.

Jon Garland is getting 'heavy sleeper interest' from teams like Houston who see him as 'plan 9' should none of the top starters fall their way

I don't understand how anybody could convince themselves that AJ Burnett is worthy of a 5 year deal. That's going to blow up in someone's face.

Yeah, it was a broadcaster (Tim McCarver). It occurred in a couple of mildly important games against Tampa Bay near the end of the season.

See, I fooled everyone. I was always listening to the radio while watching the World Series. So I never heard McCarver. Every time I remember this, I remember how my enjoyment of the proceedings was increased, like, a billion percent by this decision.

Life is good as the World Champs. If Smuggy Smugness forfeits our first round pick for Doug Brocail, he immediately falls below Wade on the Phillies GM rankings.

Exactly my reaction. Who the hell is that?

dude went deep against the phils this year. backbreaking loss in oaktown.

Brown was a great example of free talent a few years ago. He was a guy who had hit well in AAA for 5 or 6 years and the Royals finally gave him a shot when he was 30. He led the team in RBI for three straight years although he was never really all that good.

He's now no longer free and no longer talent to quote BP. If Amaro starts signing guys like Brown, that will be a pretty good indicator of what his tenure as GM will be.
