It's true that Huff doesn't meet the preferred RH requirements for filling Burrell's shoes, but in every other way he's pretty similar and demonstrably better than either Jenkins or Stairs. He has a split, but is a .280 hitter against LHP, better than what either of the other two can do. In reality, a steady LH bat in RF to hit in the 6th spot would balance the order nicely and allow you to put Victorino back up top with Werth sliding into Burrell's position and batting slot.

Concerns about a glut could be alleviated during ST when teams looking to beef up their bench will be calling about Stairs for sure

Just so everyone knows who may be on the market next year. I'm ok with a stop gap option in LF so long as it isn't for more than next year. If you go with Rivera this year, I think you've either got to commit to youth in 2010 (Taylor if everything works out) or make a run at Crawford or Holliday.

The Nats? Really? I can see why the Nats would want him... but why would Manny want to go there?

Must be planning on watching from the clubhouse a lot.

Can you imagine the massively-talented OF of Dukes, Milledge, and Manny?

Can you imagine the headaches of the same?

Maybe Manny would join in the Dukes/Milledge "Treat the third base coach's high five like a football handoff on a HR" schtick. That made me laugh every time I saw that last year.

I now believe the Phillies are going to sign Manny Ramirez. For whatever that is worth.

It is a great quote, but I have a hard time imagining he actually said it. Sounds like someone is very good at forging Manny's style to me.

No one and I mean no one wants to go to Washington, especially Dunn, but especially Manny.

They will have their pick of the litter so to speak from guys like Giambi, Griffey, Ibanez, Edmonds etc.

Anyone know how much the Mets have to spend this winter? I thought I read that they were basically against the upper limit of what they could spend last year. I know they are now out from under the Pedro contract, and of course they have a new ballpark for next year which means more revenues (presumably) but what does that leave them with to spend? It seems to me this is a three-horse race: Mets, Angels, and Phillies. Can the Phillies outbid the other two?

Boras is waiting to tell everyone he is in. Think Game 5 of the 2008 World Series.

Can someone catalog karn's posts for the purposes of cross-checking the outcomes with the "experts" predictions? It could be a hoot.
