Shouldn’t they have waited until after our unceremonious exit from the playoffs? I guess they were gonna do it no matter what the outcome…

They still have to face Zambrano, Harden, Volstad, and Nolasco. None of those games are going to be that easy to win. I say they go 3-2 the rest of the way. That means the Phillies just have to get two more wins.

Yes, but in a double utley you can put your utley on top they other guy's utley, and you're the winner. (Swish)

Florida will win AT LEAST one game of the three. And I suspect they'll win two. Mets will finish no better than 3-2 in their last 5.

Edit: And it will be up to Milwaukee to force a one-game playoff with the Mets. Take 2 of 3 against the Cubs and they'll tie the Mets, I think. Take 1 of 3 and I think they're in trouble.

So, it's going to be super tough for us versus the Braves and Nats (two teams that SU-uck, by the way) but you've just decided the Marlins have quit? Based on what exactly?

At this point, the Marlins don't really care about the Reds or the Nats, especially after the letdown from the Phillies series. However, I can imagine they will be ready to go once they see the Mets this weekend due to their rivalry.

Really relying on two teams to help us that - one, just got eliminated and two, have bigger fish to fry - is fools gold. I would not be shocked in the least if Mets and the Brew Crew, for that matter, win out. It's certainly reasonable for it to happen. Phils just need to beat inferior teams that have nothing to play for. Win out and nothing else matters.

Dont forget that the teams we're playing have nothing left to play for either.

No question about. At this point, there's nothing they'd rather see than a repeat of last season.

I suspect the Marlins have quit because since dropping 2/3 from Phillies, they are 0-3 against the Reds and Nats.

I suspect the Phillies HAVE to win all 4 of their remaining games because it's the only way to be assured of the division, unless and until the Mets or Brewers lose again. As it stands right now, they HAVE to win.

I suspect the Phillies are making me nervous and worried that they will struggle because --- lest any of us forget --- these are the fuck-ing Phillies we are talking about here. The 1 WS win in 103 tries Phillies. Also, baseball ain't like football. Just because a superior team is playing an inferior opponent at home and needs to win doesn't make the chances of that team's victory 80-90%. It makes it, at best, 60% (at best). There's too much luck involved.

As long as you realize how diametrically opposed your assumptions are and you're just being irrational because you're a phan, that's cool.

Im as numerically and statistically inclined as anyone here (except MattS, and maybe Shore), but even I'm realistically worried right now. Its the Phillies.

If they win tonight, I'll feel a lot better.

I'm worried. Or worried about being worried, or whatever it was I said.

I'm talking about how he thinks the Marlins have quit and the Brewers are going to sweep the Pirates, but at the same time the Phillies don't have better than a 60% chance to win any game.

Yet, haven't they also been quite vocal in the past about disliking the Phillies. Beyond Scott Olsen, I think other Marlins have expressed this too.

Maybe the Marlins hate everybody.
