The only thing that made me really angry on my two trips to Shea this summer was the PA reference to Mr. Met as "the best mascot in baseball."

No.

$#@!.

Way.

It's the most unimaginitive mascot humanly possible. It's named "Mr. Met" and it has a giant baseball for a head for god's sake.

Isn't it the same as Mr. Red, or even Screwball, the R-Phils Mascot?

Mr. Red
(1955-2006) Disappeared in the late 1980s for unknown reasons. Resurfaced in 1997. "Retired" following the 2006 season (rumors of revealing photos with Frankie Furter, the Milwaukee sausage race hot dog, have not been substantiated).

Mr. Redlegs:
(2007- ) Following Mr. Red's "retirement", the Cincinnati Reds lured Mr. Reglegs away from Procter & Gamble, where he had a lucrative career representing Pringle's Newfangled Potato Chips.

So if the Mets don't win the division now would it still be a collapse since they only have a half game lead with 8 to go?

Anyway, Mike of Mike and the Mad Dog (sans Mad Dog) on WFAN predicts if the Mets do not make the playoffs this year they will break up the core of the team. The only core player I think they would really want to move is Beltran. Its probably moot though thanks to the Brewers.

I love the wikipedia entry for Aaron Heilman:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aaron_Heilman

Not only is Aaron not a starter, he is not even good enough to be playing any type competitive baseball. He has become a hated mets pitcher by single-handedly blowing 15 plus games for the mets in the 2008 season. If he is on the opening day roster next year, the mets will lose thousands of fans. He is a cowardly pitcher who wears the save feminine frown on his face every game and is suspected of being paid off by other teams to blow important games. Despite the hate of the fans Heilman continues to show his face at Shea Stadium.

The following are the dates of games in 2008 that the mets lost that can directly be attributed to heilman: 9/21, 8/30, 8/24, 8/11, 8/2, 8/1, 7/26, 7/2, 6/12, 5/30, 5/23, 5/14, 4/8, 4/6. Keep in mind that these dates are only the games he SINGLE-HANDEDLY lost the game for the mets. He has contributed to digging the mets bigger holes in close games, and he has blown saves and games that the mets have come back to win to save his hide.

Aaron has ruined his baseball career along with ruining the 2008 mets season and is not expected to play for any team ever again due to his lack of talent.

The Mets might get passed by the Brewers this week. They're only up 1 game now...
