They're both arrogant, but a lot of the stuff he's been saying is pretty cool.

Also, I'm sure he has been a lot of Phelps' inspiration, insofar as he's trying to win 8 golds to set the new record.

What's Spitz supposed to do? Shuffle his feet, cast his eyes down and say: "Aw, shucks. What I did was no big deal?"

What he did was an enormous deal. It's a record that's stood for 36 years and has only now been tied. Plus, Spitz (who's Jewish) did it in Munich in 1972 when terrorists murdered 11 Israeli athletes and coaches and only 27 years from a time when they were gassing Jews in Germany.

During tonight's interview he was proud, yet gracious and passed the baton of greatness to Michael Phelps with dignity and class.

Well said. I watched those Olympics and it was termendous. Props to Phelps but just because you didn't see Spitz do his thing -- nor have the feeling of that context -- being IN Germany and then Jews being murdered... it was an intense Olympics... people were glued to the set...
