Pet Peeves a new volume:

that actually does annoy me. escalators usually aren't wide enough for people to be comfortably standing side by side passing each other no matter what side you're standing on without bumping into each other. why in such a rush. stop and smell the roses.

"these ones"

as in when 2 people are looking at a spreadsheet and one person references a column of numbers and says, "Where did these ones come from?"

I just pointed at a spreadsheet today and said that. So what?

BTW, here's the cell I was pointing at.

I dunno - why do your feet stop working when on an escalator or a moving sidewalk as in airports? Especially an adult in good health without kids in tow. Keep movin fatty

Worse yet - idiots who disembark an escalator and stop, with the ensuing pileup behind them.

Have I heard correctly, that "literally" has been added to the dictionary in it's more recent use as a colloquialism ?

I disagree that the word 'neither distorts or changes the meaning' (or whatever they say). The problem with the misuse of 'literally' is that there is no single synonym that can be used in its place, so the meaning needs to be kept pure to avoid ambiguity.

There's a synonym for literally too.

My theory (and I'm sticking to it)... "literally" was originally misconstrued with "legitimately" since they both start with the letter "L", and it stuck.
