Honestly, given the "especially" clause in the definition, "tack" may not be the word you're looking for either. Perhaps use "approach" instead.

better than saying VERSE

That doesn't really bug me. To me it just has it's original Latin meaning of against, and so if against would work there (which I think it does) it's okay by me. But one man's pet peeve is another man's floor, as they day.

How come I rarely see poetry slams referred to as Verses versus verses?

My kids started using "verse" as a verb when they were playing field hockey, as in, "we're versing the North Penn black team next".

People can quote tweet the words and put a link. I used to do that mostly, but I've grown lazy.
