Does anyone have a good, reliable, DISreputable mechanic in Bucks County they care to recommend? Here’s the deal: I have a convertible that has a classic plate and which I drive seldomly (about 5,000 miles in three years of ownership). Now that I work in Philly I occasionally commute with it, but other than that this is strictly a weekend car, and strictly a good weather car. Basically doesn’t get moved from November through March except once a month maybe to keep air in the tires and the battery from going dead.

Its roof is fucked, but I don’t care because if it’s not top-down weather it doesn’t come out from under its cover. It has some other issues that would cause it to fail inspection but this is a car I have seriously driven an average of 1,333 miles a year since owning it. I’d like to keep it because it runs. When it stops running, it’s all done. I got the thing three years ago for $1800. It’s an old woody K platform Chrysler LeBaron with a surprisingly refined interior, which was my number one reason for buying it. In decent condition these things are now pushing into the classic car space. Mine ain’t that, but I like it and get complimented on it all the time.

All I want is a sticker. Anyone know someone who will definitely give me one?

Yes... but seriously:

Anyone know a good "wink-wink here's your sticker" guy?

If it's actually driven fewer than 5k miles per year it's exempt from the emissions test. You should probably just pay for whatever is needed to pass safety inspection, though.

Not sure there's many of those guys remaining.

Not really difficult to pass inspection without emissions.

Ever since the prior owners got shut down and went to jail for that in the early 2000s, Dave and Dan at cetronia auto services has been legit. Might want to find a friend or relative out of state with lax laws and register it there. Also, hope not to get pulled over doing that, it really gets complicated to say the least.

I know a guy in Kensington if you really wanted it (pip). For the "inspection" of my old monte carlo, the guy just took a lap around the car, took a drag off his cigarette, and have me the nod of approval along with the sticker and a $50 "invoice".

think i might be getting a bolt before xmas. they really dropped in price and a 17 premier can be had for under 20k. i hope it turns out to be a better investment than the creative labs zen mp3 player that i bought instead of an ipod to save a few bucks tho. there's that danger, bouncing around in the back of my head.

unless my hoa doesn't mind me rolling out a cord over the sidewalk and getting 4 miles per hour charging, i really don't have a place to charge this, except for the free chargers in the apartment complex around the corner that i know the gate code to.

i do a ton of driving, and if i just throw down a couple of k, if i don't pay for electricity, it's almost free.

i just want an electric truck, whether it's rivian or tesla. something with range, can do some light off roading and definitely needs to be good in the snow. unfortunately that's a couple years away at least, and i got the electric itch.

the bolt would make a great in town beater car that should easily outlast a combustion engine vehicle for all the stupid driving i do.

just ramblin' along.

i'm really excited and hope he doesn't disappoint. musk likes sleek and fast and i'm more of a utility type guy. i am guessing 2022 before it does. if i was sold on level 5 autonomous sometime within the next 3 years or hell even 5, i'd already have a 3 awd right now. since i don't, that's why i started looking at the bolt and looked at the math. definitely wouldn't be the coolest kid in town driving one, but still good, clean transportation.
